Does the digitizer break when screen is cracked on the Nexus 7 (2013)

Yes mine is the same notice the other day it the same goes up at the left hand corner n doesn't work the touch screen above the fracture.thinking it cud be the heat coz its been running very hot and now where the fracture is it just get hot there on the screen.I want to send it be but mine is about 3 year old they will just say wear and tear won't they
