Does the S8 have high res audio?

its hifi too me with using poweram app. blasts as loud as my old iphone 7 plus. period.

How about the quality through headphones?

I think the sound through headphones is great if you set up the Adapt Sound in the equaliser settings.

You're not gonna find it on the S8. You want a good one try the V20 or Axon 7. The Axon 7 will blow away anything Samsung has in the audio department.

GS8 is definitely improved from last year but HTC 10, V20, Axon 7, etc are definitely better choices for high res audio by a longshot

The s8 is supposed to have high resolution audio but I am not seeing it in power amp yet. The quality of the components is very good but not quite v20.

Having had the HTC 10, axon 7, and v20. For myself I feel that the audio is really good. Using my bose quiet comfort on all devices as a control. This phone has no problem playing my flac files and they do sound incredible when compared to mp3 quality. My favorite for sound is still the HTC 10. Sadly from what I understand HTC is going away from the dac in the next flagship.

The phone is capable of playing high res audio. By high res I mean 24bit 192khz. Not sure if software support has cought up with that though. According to audio review from pocket now, the phone has much improved headphone audio over last year's S7 ( referring Snapdragon to Snapdragon models) it's not as good as a V20, but it's very solid. I'm coming from a V10 which had awesome audio chops and this S8 still seems pretty good to me.

Through the built in headphone jack and by audiophile standards, no. The Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+ and Note 8 are compatible with lossless audio files such as FLAC and compatible with portable USB DAC headphone amplifiers, such as the Audioquest Dragonfly Black ($99) and Dragonfly Red ($199). The Dragonfly Red has somewhat better sound quality compared to the Dragonfly Black and a larger audio output level (2.1VDC versus 0.9VDC). Sound quality is always subjective and different headphones have different levels of impedance and sensitivity. Most full size headphones are high impedance, greater than 100 ohms and of relatively low sensitivity such as 90 - 100 dB SPL. I chose and recommend the high performance Bowers and Wilkins P7 headphones ($349) having a high sensitivity of 118 dB SPL and low impedance of only 18 ohms.
