Does the screen turn on with fingerprint scanner?

I'm curious if the screen will turn on and unlock when you put your finger on the fingerprint scanner. If not, you have to turn the screen on with the power button on the side and then place your finger on the back to scan and unlock. If that's the case the scanner in the power button seems like much better placement.

It turns on the screen and unlocks the phone when you place your finger on it.

I think it has like an ambient display in which case it will be able to be unlocked right away without the power button

The only thing I'm not sure on is if touching the ring wakes the screen or if it's the movement that wakes the screen. Either way if you pick it up and put your finger on the ring it will unlock. Curious to see if it's laying back up and you gently put your finger down it it wakes or not.
