Does this work? (Adding new line on Verizon)

I didn't have any problems either. Matter of fact, Verizon actually suggested going that route in the first place.

Very true, they wanted me to do the same instead of paying full price for the Nexus. I ended up buying outright online.

The Verizon rep offered me this same solution. I switched from the Razr to the Razr Maxx. I charged it Saturday night. Unplugged it from the charger around 8:00 and I didn't have to plug it in to charge until 7:00 this morning. I am loving the battery life on the Maxx!!!! Just awesome!!

I was just reading your forum on getting a Droid Maxx. I was trying to do the same thing but I was told that it couldn't be done. Amazon.com is selling it cheaper if you add a line to your account then upgrading it at Verizon wireless. I wanted to buy the phone off amazon, adding a new line. Switching numbers from the phone I have now to the Maxx and then making this line a dummy phone. This lines contract ends in October so wouldn't I only have to pay for $40? ($10 each month). I have a Droid Incredible. And when I asked them if it could be done they said no, because it was some policy that doesn't allow me to do that. But reading this, I plan on calling them back!! Help! I'm trying to get this soon because on June 28th if I upgrade I won't be able to keep my unlimited data.

Thanks!

Amazon makes you keep the phone you just added to the new line on the new line for 6 months, or you have to pay a HUGE fee. It's a pain, but that's why it's cheaper. It's how they make money.

But wouldn't I still be able to just switch my number and make the other line a dummy?

If you don't mind using the new phone line/number, then yes, you could take the Inc off your current line and make it the dummy line, but you'll have to change to the new number. Also, you wount get unlimited data on the new line and as soon as you activate a dummy phone on the old line, you will lose unlimited on it as well. Its worth the extra money just to buy it from Verizon and use it on your current line.

Is there any way to have my number on the Maxx?

Unless things have changed, add a line to your account ($10 extra a month) and buy the RAZR with it. Once you buy the RAZR you will need to activate it first on the new line. When you activate it on the new line you will need to add a data plan. After activating it on the new line you will transfer it to your original account. You'll need a new SIM card to transfer it. Once you transfer the RAZR to the new line use a dumb phone (flip phone) for the new line. The data plan will no longer be on the second line. So you will end up paying an extra $10 a month only. You are allowed to do this, unless things have changed. Now, hurry and go find a RAZR. :)

So basically, we're telling you not to do it through Amazon because you'll have to change your number. Verizon may cost more but it is worth it to keep your number and unlimited.
