Does Updating To Jellybean Erase Any Old Data Already On Handset?

When I accepted the download of Gingerbread on my Motorola Atrix 4G, all my phone contacts were lost.

Now that I have a GS3, do I have that to look forward to, whenever AT&T / Samsung offers the Jellybean revisional upgrade?

If your phone contacts are Google contacts, you should be fine. I believe you can also use Kies to back them up before you accept any upgrade.

If you use a Gmail account and have it set up on your phone to sync email, contacts, and calendar, than nothing should be lost. An OTA update itself should not wipe any of your data unless you choose to do so. Something must have gone wrong or you didn't have your account set up properly to sync with Gmail if you lost your contacts before.

An official OTA should not wipe your data. Contacts should be restored via Google and or your carriers backup assistant.
