Does Verizon just suck?

VZW SIM is just for LTE. It doesn't work like a GSM SIM. I'm able to change phones by using the phone swap tool in my online account. Its been pretty easy though I haven't done this in some time.

Oh they must have change this. I used to just switch out the sim card into a different phone and everything was ok.

Right, so nobody actually has any substantive proof that the VZW version of the G4 is in any way different from all the other variants... There's your answer OP.

I have had both the Verizon and h815 models. The differences that I noticed are:

I have both the Verizon G4 and the International G4. Overall, they are similar, but some things I noticed:

-Verizon is missing smart settings
-Verizon is missing change profile option (guest account).*
-Verizon has a printed screen protector installed (International has a clear one, which can be used as a cheap screen protector.
-Verizon version cannot change themes.*
-Verizon version is missing smart world, though it an be side loaded.*
-Verizon version cannot add fonts, though you can do it if you side load smart world.*
-Verizon version doesn't have fm radio.*
-Verizon has the Verizon logo stamped into the black leather.
-The Verizon one retains the adjustments to auto brightness (something that my Galaxy devices lacked)
-The sim slot on the International one has a recess at the top, which makes it easier to remove.*
-Verizon one didn't have the 100gb Google Drive credit*
-Verizon has 2.4/5ghz hotspot. International unlocked (h815) only has 2.4 ghz*

As for does Verizon suck? It depends on what parameter. Their customer service is atrocious and customer policies are one of the worst.

But they let me use 4GLTE Jetpacks and 4GLTE broadband router with legacy unlimited data, thanks to their 700MHz spectrum. No other carrier let's you do this, either currently or in the past. And my usage on any other carrier would be astronomically higher

In addition they have service where I need it. TMobile at my house gets good service up stairs, but downstairs gets more limited service sometimes dropping to edge. At my work, my Co worker with att has no service at my desk.

I do like Tmobile's customer policies and the freedom to get devices which haven't been touched by carriers, but not at an astronomically higher price and much worse network where I need it.

Now while Verizon has the best overall network, there will be places where another carrier is better, and even if not better, perhaps acceptable for you.

If my needs were different and Tmobile's network was better where I needed it then I would switch in a heartbeat.

Which carrier is better? ATT even more restrictive.

No AT&T will let you activate any unlocked phone. Verizon, on the other hand, would you let you activate any non-Verizon branded phone. Also Verizon likes to put their logo right there in the front of the phone, where AT&T put it in the back.

Which current (2015) phone has the Verizon logo on the front?

I despise Verizon and was with them for about a year. I had a Note 4 with them and got the itch to buy a Blackberry Classic "for cheap" thinking I could just swap my SIM back and forth. Turns out that I had to call them each time I wanted to change phones and that was a 20 to 30 minute process. Combine that with pitiful signal at my house in metro Atlanta of all places where all of the other carriers are below -80dbm and I was done with big red. I switched back to Tmobile and swap my SIM between a G4 and a Nexus 6 and I have a half dozen older phones I can drop my SIM in without having to call any. And god help you if you buy a non-branded Verizon phone like you because super amazing best carrier in the whole wide world and then some could give a damn...... Oh yeah, did I mention I consistently get over 100Mbps with T-Mobile at my house?

I don't know about the LG G4, but look at what's going on with the Moto X 2014 on ATT and Verizon. Those models are not getting the 6.0 update, but the unlocked "pure editions" are (I have a VZW Moto X). I don't have the definitive answer as to why, but fingers are pointed at the carriers. So if the OP is concerned about future software updates, no doubt he'll be better off with an unlocked G4 rather than the VZW version.

VZW takes the time to check updates before pushing them. My biggest beef is I wish updates were optional. Updates often screw up your phone. Check the note 4 forums.

This update made it so some notifications don't come in on Wi-Fi. It's a weird bug. I am also seeing my screen freak out for about half a second if that and go back to normal. It didn't do that before the update.

Updates are optional, if you take the time to make them optional.

Personally, the never-ending hard-on for android updates lost all meaning for me back about the time Honeycomb came out. After that, most stuff was just window dressing. I don't know if any of my devices are running their "current" version. To each their own.

If a VZW customer and not rooted I do not understand what you are talking about.

Well suntan said updates are optional. On vzw you get them whether u want them or not.

They are optional in that you have the option to root and block them.

I think he meant some VZW phones cannot be rooted which means you cannot block them.

Yes, but the VZW G4 can be rooted, and updates blocked. If it's important to a person, they can shop for just the phones that already have known, working exploits.
