Dolby Atmos

I'm hoping the AR emoji stuff comes to the s8 too, as I'm guessing it's just software related

Yeah I got that lol

Cool, then try to keep your comments on topic. Or start a new thread with what you would like to talk about.

OP: Samsung has said they will not be providing support for this in Oreo for the S8/+ ... as of now I haven't found any other way to add it either. Maybe one day, if anyone is working on it... but I highly doubt it.

are you an admin?

Yeah, how about we get an admin to weigh in on this and we'll see what he/she has to say...

In the meantime, how about we all try and stay relevant to the topic at hand with our comments, and not clog up someone's thread with other things we want to talk about - like these types of useless comments. Sound good, guy? Great! Thanks a bunch... I'm sure OP thanks you too...

I'm just curious, what's the benefit of Atmos?

A little snippet from an article I read a little while back explaining it nicely:

"If you're not sure what Dolby Atmos is, let us explain. It is an audio software, which fine-tunes EQ settings and surround emulation for when the user is wearing headphones. It is considered to be vastly superior to stereo and even surround sound, as it eliminates the whole "audio coming from different channels" approach. Instead, Atmos is capable of creating a complete sphere of sound all around you, which gives a big boost to immersiveness. Only a limited number of phones feature Dolby Atmos, the most notable of them being the Razer Phone and the Nokia 6. The leaked Oreo build gave us hope that the Galaxy S8 and S8+ might be joining that club, but sadly, this is not the case."

calm down mate. I was only asking as I see you helping a lot of people out on here. if you wanna turn it into something bad, then that's on you. To the op, sorry for all this rubbish on your post. I was just on about adding to the s8 as with the Dolby Atmos

Ok. I'll chime in.

In all fairness, he made a mistake, and not one to get in a fuss over.

I doubt that either the s8 or the note8 will get it as they both have bad single speakers. if it affects bluetooth or wired headsets then there should be no reason not to unless it is hardware specific

My understanding is it's really for headphones or external speakers. The physical speaker setup on phones wouldn't benefit from this or hinder it's availability of Atmos on phones. I could be wrong about the benefit part of that, but it wouldn't make much sense to me that it would work through the phones speakers. It's basically just software, so in theory it should be doable. However, Samsung seems to have no interest. Maybe a dev out there will figure out a way to sideload it onto the S8/+, but I honestly doubt anyone will put the effort into that. But who knows, we could get lucky.

As the technology would have to be licensed, and paid for by samsung... I can't see them retrofitting it to old phones.

It works on new phones.. as the biggest benefit of Dolby Atmos is the sticker on the front of the box saying "Dolby Atmos"

I kind of doubt this unless it was officially licenced, which means users would likely have to pay for it. I have a free video player that use to be able to decode one of Dolby's formats, and they got CND'd from Dolby for it. One of their updates a while back was specifically to remove that decoding ability.

I won't try this myself, because I personally have limited interest in this, but I just stumbled across a tutorial to install Dolby Atmos on a non-rooted phone, but it only works with the Google play music app, and there's of course hoops to jump through to get it to work right and apparently you don't get the true effect of Atmos, you really just get the equalizer that only works with Google play music.

You can also currently run true Atmos on any rooted phone running Jellybean 4.3 and above, assuming one has an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery installed. But, that's not exactly relevant to this thread, as the OPs question was about getting it working on a non-rooted S8.

Yes.. there are things that individual rom developers, or tech enthusiasts can do, that corporations wouldn't do in a million years.....

I have it (Dolby Atmos) on my ZTE Zmax Pro and it's one of the reasons I keep that phone to use as a music player. It came stock on that budget phone. Stunning difference over not having it.

The S8/S8+ was rumored to get it w/Oreo but then that rumor was swatted down by Samsung.
