Done with Google phones

Don't make the mistake of projecting problems reported here as an indication of the quality of a phone. People are far more likely to go searching online for a problem (and finding their way here) or complaining about a problem on a forum. They are looking for answers.

I always put it this way.. if an alien comes to Earth and decides to research is by going into a hospital, they'll immediately assume that everyone is hurt, sick, on the brink of death. It's called selection bias.

The 2XL is the more popular model, so there will be more owners, and more owners with problems. More problems, more problem posts. Go on any phone board here and there will be a disproportionate number of people with issues looking for help.

But there are a ton of 2XL owners who haven't had issues, and absolutely love the phone (like yours truly). I've opened phones from a bunch of different manufacturers, and the ones I've owned from Google (pixel and Nexus) have had, by a massive margin, fewer issues. Me and my family have owned a total of 8, and I have yet to have a major issue with them. Phones I've had from LG and Samsung, on the other hand, have been rather aggravating to deal with... So much so that I've gone all Pixel across the family lineup.

But I also won't make the mistake of assuming everyone's experience matches mine. People having issues are not making stuff up, and just because I haven't had a problem, doesn't mean those problems do not exist. No phone is 100% perfect, all will have a set of owners fed up with them and looking to go elsewhere. We have many former iPhone owners here because they were sick of dealing with them, and there are people over in imore who got sick of Android... It happens.

Further selection bias point... the forums are going to have a much larger volume of people who have Pixels than the public at large, as a percent of cap.

Very well said. It's difficult to make a real informed decision based on online feedback when it pertains to the quality of a product. Fact is, a large portion of people simply come to the forums because they've had a problem. Meanwhile, the much larger pool of satisfied customers are off enjoying their phones. So at a quick glance, it just looks like the phone is bogged down with defects judging by forum posts - and that couldn't be further from the truth.

I bet he didn't know about 2 yr warranty.. or bought it used from someone who rooted it and REALLY screwed it up.

I bet most people here viciously assume things that are either implausible or downright mockingly false. I've had several iPhones, and Windows Phones as well as a blackberry. The only phone I've ever had flat out crash and burn, was the Pixel 2.

It wasn't rooted and it was a VZW model I bought unlocked from Target. I was the only owner and it lasted three months. I'm sorry my experience with Google products differs from the positive narrative being established here daily, but it's the truth.

Kudos to the member who posted this video n' No doubt the OP
of this topic manage to -Work it out on his way - By getting
an iPhone. Again was his choice,.Like those guys above
Said in one of their songs - Let it be.. :(

False. Currently using a Moto G5S Plus. Notice I said Google phones in the title, not Android.

If you knew about Google Warranty why not get full value? I said "or" rooted not both

Because I wouldn't trust that phone either. Mock all you want, but it literally crashed when I changed my wallpaper. It wasn't rooted and had no other launchers but the stock one.

BTW you're barking up the wring tree. I don't like Pixels either! Just sayin you would have made out MUCH better selling a nice new in the box phone.

But you could sell the new working phone for MUCH more $ than the ATM!

Not a big deal. I'm not blasting Google's return policy or RMA process. I'm blasting their products, and I wouldn't sell a possible lemon to an unsuspecting person. This is of course subjective and I know most of you probably haven't had any issues, but from my perspective, I don't trust Google anymore than Samsung or LG at this point.

What do you think happened to the phone u turned in to phone atm? Try the warranty next time. i would give u more than the machine for nib pixel 2 just to play with on wifi!

There's also the silent majority at play.

Those who don't have an issue usually don't post about their experience much. However, when there's a negative experience, people are more likely to tell others about it, like asking for advice on how to resolve an issue

I wouldn't say it was that. Most just tried to guess the reasoning why that would happen. TBH you didn't give many details so .. Idk how you would expect them to know 100% what you went through / what you did or didn't do to your phone :).

Fair enough. Once bitten, twice shy. If Google/Fi hadn't made good on my botched trade-in, I'd be telling them both to pound salt, too.

Several folks dismissed the idea that it crashed when setting a wallpaper. It did, which is why I said what I said. How could they know it DIDN'T crash when I did that?

How would they know it did without any modifications? This is Android and rooting isn't super far fetched from users on a forum like this :). As I said you made a thread with very minor details and left it. You will get people on both sides guessing what could be the cause.

Listen the title of your Post is not consistent with the text, because just in the 1st
line you wrote and quote "My Pixel 2 somehow ended up with a ..." So now it
Turns out that your current phone is a Moto GS5 : What OS runs on Pixel 2. ?

Just Login on the Site and saw a quoted post, when I opened and read
all what you called mocked comments..I came in your defense

and I got in Hot water with some Mods as a result
but you don't appreciate that - Thanks for it :-!

* But this learned lesson won't stop Me to say something
considered unfair..Part of my reaction on my daily life

You created and pretty much abandoned the thread until now so the thread ran it's course with people speculating different things. I still say it's odd that you didn't exchange it for a replacement. If that's how you react to every product that fails that's you're choice but you had an alternative. Good luck with your G5.

My comment (and I suspect the others, though I'm not going to put words in their keyboards) was not that we doubted your phone crashed when switching the wallpapers, but rather your claim of it crashing BECAUSE of you switching wallpapers.

I couldn't agree with this post more.

I mean, yeah, if you go to a pixel specific forum of course that's going to be the case.
