Don't get automatic software updates?

Since I got my Gear S2 about 3 weeks ago, it has been updated twice. Both times I found out about the pending update by checking the app. Shouldn't there be automatic updates or at lease a notification that one is available?

Any ideas on how this normally works?

Yep it does that. When u open the app it says update. Normal for me and the wife.
