Double Tap=Screen On

No, this is a separate thing. You can use launchers like Nova to enable a double tap gesture to hide your status bar up top (pull down) or do other things. I used this extensively before I switched to Action Launcher. Action Launcher has a tap to hide the search bar which I use, however oftentimes I'll accidentally double tap. This would turn off my screen rather than hide an element of the homescreen. It may not be a big deal to you, but it is for a contingent of people which includes myself.
Ah OK I misunderstood what you were saying

I've been enjoying double tap to wake on the bottom inch of my HTC one screen. I also have long press htc logo to wake or sleep & swipe right across capacitive area to wake and left to sleep. I also have volume keys as wake. I wonder why for instance Htc didn't map the htc logo to menu as I did with a custom kernel. The double tap to wake thing would be cool out of the box as well.

Unlocking the bootloader brings a whole new world to the one. It's well worth it and really is not dangerous if you follow directions. Dual booting stock android and htc sense 5? Priceless.

Thanks, now I'm going to spend the rest of the night rooting this thing! Is there a way to unlock the bootloader, keep sense and add the capacitive unlock thing?

Yes sir. As soon as you FLASH TWRP recovery do a backup immediately. Then once it's finished flash the supersu zip. I'd suggest Bulletproof Kernel. There is one for 4.1.2 roms including the stock rom. If you want since you are unlocking your bootloader and installing a custom recovery you could try a custom rom. I'd suggest android revolution 12.2. It's a sense 5 based 4.2.2 rom.

Either way once you finish unlocking, flashing twrp, backing up, flashing root zip or custom rom, you will want to download this kernel to your SD card folder. Then flash it from twrp. There are several kernels that support the sleep and wake functions however I'd highly suggest Bulletproof Kernel. Here is the link. Let me know if you need any other help.

The kernel install will boot into aroma installer when you start the flash in twrp. Go through it and select the options you want and then hit install.

As is often the case, this was first created by Nexus devs. Haven't used...or rather haven't had to use...the power button since the Gnex. Super handy. Nice to see more people will get to enjoy it on a stock device. I think sliding a finger left to right/right to left is a better gesture though. Just about no chance to do it by accident.

Yes. I disabled the double tap to wake. I prefer swipe right across capacitive area to wake and left to sleep.

Double tap to wake seems ok for some, but I think it will cause more problems than help. It is in our pockets all the time, moving around. I myself ride my motorcycle, bumps and whatnot will probably wake it and the power button will probably hit my jeans and turn on. The phone is wicked, but the power on/off solutions....ehhhhh.

I had the only other phone with a double tap to wake (lumia 925), and it never woke up with anything other than a double tap with my finger. I believe LGs solution uses a combination of the accelerometer and capacitive screen, and its pretty much impossible for an accidental double tap to trigger it.

I wonder how long before a creative developer figures out how to implement this on other rooted android phones.

It will be copied, the Moto X features are already getting copied so it won't take long.

look up PGM NEXUS or TOUCHCONTROL and youll have even better options than what you had on the lumia

I've had apex launcher installed on my g2 for a couple of days.. and just figured out that I can blacken my screen.. if you double tap on the the dropdown bar. So it does work

in nova launcher, double tap the notification area to turn off the screen, you still can double tap any place on the screen to turn on the phone though.
