Downloaded images continually disappear. Why? Can I fix it?

Hi all,

I've recently been having problems with images I download to my GS3 as wallpapers, either I download them onto my phone directly from the web (from imgur for instance) and then rename them in the file manager that comes with the phone or attach them to an email, send it to myself, and download the images that way. When I do this, several issues can occur. The particular image I download can become corrupt which I then have to delete, or other images that are already in my gallery can completely disappear or corrupt without warning which seems odd to me. Why would this happen? I thought I should be able to rename a file on a phone just like I can on a computer without the image itself or others going away in the process. Are some characters I use in the file name causing a problem, like spaces? I don't use weird punctuation in the file names.

Any idea what the problem is? Thank you in advance!

Strange. I only have a small sample of data:
- renamed picture using Gallery - ok
- renamed picture using My Files app - ok
- used space in name - ok
Are these png files that you're using?
Does the problem only happen after you actually use it as a wallpaper?

I haven't noticed anything like you describe with pictures than I've downloaded via MMS or web browsers, although I don't usually rename them.

Hi, thanks for the reply! Some of the ones that have disappeared have in fact been used as a wallpapers, but then again others haven't. I am using .jpg only. I rename them because often when I download something from Imgur it has a gibberish name like "Op2zls8r3.jpg" instead of what the image actually depicts, for instance "Grand Canyon.jpg".

Hopefully somehow I can get to the bottom of it...

Well, I found some jpg files that I had downloaded, and also renamed them using both the Gallery app and the My Files app - they all showed up correctly in the Gallery.
Note that when using the My Files app to rename them, it took a noticeable amount of time before the image showed up in the Gallery - probably on the order of ~5 seconds before the one image that I renamed reappeared in the Gallery. Is it possible that this is all that's going on?

Im having the SAME issue! I see an expiration date, file size, and a "Download" button. I know it's a photo sent from my mother, but when I push download a moving bar appears to be downloading the image, but then it just disappears completely!!! It's very annoying having to ask everyone that sends me photos via text to resend EVERY time. Are you any closer to figuring out what's happening or how to retrieve the downloads? Im stuck... :(

Is the person sending photos using an iPhone? I've read a lot about some sort of incompatibility issues between messaging apps.

JacQui,
Are you using the stock Messaging app?
If you're on Wi-Fi, do you have Mobile data enabled when you attempt the download?
Do you see the mobile data icon in the Status bar while the download is taking place?
