Downloading update 4.9.51. NOT beta!

@Trevalkin: If you end up dealing w/Motorola, don't worry. Motorola has made huge changes in the way they are dealing w/Atrix customers.

Before, YOU had to pay the shipping to and from Moto, and they took 3-5 weeks to return the device. Now, Moto sends out a replacement up front, w/a prepaid return mailer envelope for the defective unit. All the anger resulting from the "muffled voice" defect brought a major attitude adjustment.

thanks I was talking with level 1 tech support and the guy wasnt able to help me, he couldnt even connect to my phone lol so I'm being connected to a next level tech support right now...

the guy also told me that this update (the official) being rolled out to a limited number of people... thats interesting....

hey, may be a dumb suggestion that you've already made sure of, but on the moto site it says make sure you have USB debugging OFF if the moto software can't recognize your device.

yes i had it off, i've read that part :) I'm with the 2nd level tech support right now. they cant figure out what the issue is..... that really sucks.....

Edit:
this is crazy..... the guy said that my only options would be to send it to Moto for repair or go through my carrier (which I dont want to do cuz they gonna give me a refurb sh%t) and sending to moto and repairing it may take up to 7 business days for which I wont have any phone at all hahaha nice....... he also said a really wierd thing "to take it easy, relax and try the update within the few following days..."
I'm not sure now what to do with this POS, I can't even selll it on ebay cuz whoever will buy it won't be able to update it either.. (I could get the Nexus S instead...) this is really f$^$^ up sorry

Well don't feel bad, mine won't work either. It doesn't find any update ever since my atrix rebooted itself in the middle of fiddling with WidgetsLocker (that lockscreen-changing app), and when it came back on it wouldn't boot past the "M" dual-core logo, kept talking about RSD and ****, which pissed me off since I hadn't ever rooted or anything at all. I was stock. So I was told to flash the SBF (I'm using terms I don't even know right now, btw), did that and ever since I'm just stuck on 4.1.5.2. The update that rolled us up to 4.1.83 or whatever never reached my phone, ever, either. I spent last night (when you were just beginning your problem in this thread) searching around XDA , here, and google in general, trying to soak in all this information, but I ended up getting so incredibly confused - I just fell asleep without even finishing! Woke up this morning and realized I still don't have GB. I'm usually tech savvy with computers and whatnot, and used to load custom OS's on my Blackberry all the time, but jesus this is a high-ass learning curve.

I assume I'm stock 4.5.2 or whatever, but in preparation for the GB update, I wanted to create a backup of all my homescreen setups and my system settings and everything. I read the only way to truly do this was through something called a nandroid backup. So I wanted to do that last night. Then I read you have to be rooted to do nandroid. So I rooted last night using some simple zip file (aRoot or something), took 15 seconds. Then apparently I have to something called CWM to use nandroid as well...and apparently CWM requires an unlocked bootloader? So I began reading up on flashing something called "pudding" to my device to unlock the bootloader. Then I realized, even if I do create a nandroid backup after unlocking my bootloader and rooting, the GB update won't even work if I'm not stock! Wtf,,,so why did I lose my "stock-ness" (lol) to do all this just so I can try and get GB without losing my homescreen setup and system settings and all!? ugh, the whole process is the biggest headache, and, again, I'm pretty tech savvy (though not Linux-savvy at all).

So, here I sit this lovely Saturday morning, with 4.1.5.2 Froyo 2.2.1, now rooted for no real reason I guess, except to help me NOT get GB OTA. I did install Titanium Backup which is pretty cool, even bought it last night (never search the market late at night. you buy things almost instantly whereas in the day, you think it through). It's nice though, but I don't understand how I'll even be able to use it if I somehow, god-willing, DO get GB OTA come July 26th. Because apparently I have to be unrooted, stock. But how can I use TIBackup if I'm not rooted ?

I'm just confusing myself some more. Sorry for hijacking the thread :-P Hope you're getting somewhere with Moto tech support. Time to do some laundry.

wow man this is way too much to handle lol
I see that there is an official date of july 26 for update. So maybe I should wait until then. (maybe is that what the tech guy meant. But what really bothers me is that neither Moto Software Update nor RSDLite detect my phone. otherwise I'd try to reflash to 1.57... this really drives me mad......
aside of that, 1.83 stock works fine.. I dont get stuck on reboot logo splash screen or anything like that....
Now what YOU can do at this point, go to this link ATRIX 4G Software Update Page - Motorola Mobility, Inc. USA
there is an option on the bottom of the page to update your phone from older versions to 1.57 and then 1.83. So if you can successfuly connect your phone to Moto Helper you may be able to do all those updates amnd hopefully update with gingerbread at the end.

Edit:
you may have to unroot first if it wont go or give you an error.

Thanks for the advice and link man. But I do wonder, is it safe to go through all the updates using Moto's site like that even though I am now rooted and have Titanium Backup installed? Last night on XDA I just kept hearing about devices getting bricked after they used the GB update through Moto. :-\ That was one of the frustrating things as well. It was like I was being sent from one person to another, and that new person always saying "Who sent you here? *rolls eyes* No, that's wrong. You need ___ and ___ in order to ____ first, only THEN can you use ___ to ___! Afterwards update to GB but DON'T USE ____ it bricks you! Use ___ to ___ the phone first, then update to GB." with a nice follow-up of, "But don't you ever flash back to _____ using _____ or you'll be bricked forever!" -- hahaha. By the end of my reading I had about 14 tabs open and, like I said, ended up falling asleep.

I just read the edit you made to your post; wow, I'm so sorry. Yeah, definitely try on July 26th, that's what I'm going to do too I think, if what you linked me to doesn't work. Honestly, I've had several issues with my Atrix (completely unrelated to rooting and the like), and my XOOM as well. I think after this I'm going to be done with Motorola products for awhile. I'll try a different manufacturer for my next android device.

edit: Just read your new edit. Alrighty, I'll try to unroot first. Thanks again.

well try to update at least to 1.83 (as this is really the only thing you can do at this point to advance to 1.83 anyway) and wait until july 26 to recieve an official AT&T OTA notification.
I'm installing all sh%t back on my atrix after fifth factory reset LOL (lost my launcher pro backup copy but thats OK)
I can't say I am unhappy with the Atrix aside of the occasional fingerprint scanner issues. besides, i like the qHD display and i'm not that fond ot Nexus S anyway... I may have to send my Atrix for repair eventually... or prolly go to AT&T... idk... so yeah.. anyway. good luck man!

sorry to hear this guys its really a bummer everyone should be able to enjoy this new gingerbread hopefully things get resolved for you guys.

Ok got it here, took forever, after the d/l it rebooted and the Moto splash screen kept coming back up but I waited, then the ATT splash screen did the same and I waited again and now Walla! its in there. Haven't had much time to check it out but so far I have noticed it is really faster. Not sure if I like the lower dock thing yet or not. I am on stock here. Some of my assigned widgets came up missing on the off home page screens but cant remember what I had there anyway so all is well. ... A lot of different stuff in the menus so it will take some time to adjust. I dont like that it does not have the battery meter pic showing how much battery you have but it does tell you , maybe I haven't found it yet. Time will tell but so far I am pleased.

Will definitely try this later on tonight (can't be without my phone right now). Thanks again man! Good luck with your situation as well!

Thanks :-) I hope so too.

thanks man. I doubt that it will be fixed on 26th anyway, cuz like I said earlier moto updater and rsdlite do not detect my phone when plugged with usb cable... although Sideloadwonder machine does detect the phone and i'm able to install apps with it. I think there is something wrong with the current 1.83 installation that I have right now and that's what the first moto tech said too. So my only option would be to send it for repair (i dont want a refurb phone) I will have to live for 7 days without the Atrix and its going to be hard lol I am constantly on it :)

to jonneh: let us know if it worked for you. good luck!

this is a long shot but maybe theres some people in this forum living around your area who might be willing to lend u a hand u never know also try downloading a different .83 sbf mayb it will work....

I think I can wait for 3 more days... I just had a phone conv. with AT&T rep and he said that only 1000 people recieved the official OTA notifications but it should really start on July 26. which is basicallly the same thing what Motorola tech support told me.
sk8trix How did you download your update? did you manually check it through the settings? I think it probably has something to do with the serial number of the phone being queued for update... idk why it worked for some people but its rejecting mine. I mean thats purely my guess i might be totally wrong lol but I'll wait until 26.....

Has anyone figured out how that pocket lock feature works?

It is under settings> Display settings and the very last option In-Pocket Detection.

Also is anyone having some issues with the Swype edit feature. I have noticed it does not work as well with Gingerbread.

I have noticed a significant increase in battery management. I think the phone can easily go for twenty-four plus hours.

Thanks in advance.

btw why does it say on the top: there is an update available for your phone 161.3mb. and then below it says "there is an optional update is available 160mb"? in ATT message when I check manually for updates? whats that supposed to mean? am I getting two updates? Has anyone noticed that?

I tried to do the update again and renamed the update file from "Blur_Version.4.5.91.MB860.ATT.en.US" to "update" (it has a zip ext. by itself) so here is what happening with my phone now if anyone interested LOL :)
http://imageshack.us/f/850/unledisa.png/ (sorry can't attach images here for some reason, had to use imageshack...)
it fails at the "verfying current system" stage. hmm interesting....

Edit:
parts where it says: wiping cache and install from SDcard I executed myself from the top menue (in blue)
