Doze issues on 7.1.1

Good afternoon all,

I'm just wondering if anyone is experiencing doze issues with 7.1.1 on the N5X?
I initially had doze issues when Android N was released but when I first installed 7.1.1 OTA it seemed to have resolved the issues I had and would only lose possibly 2-4% overnight. However, It appears I am back to losing roughly 20-25% overnight now.

So far I have carried out a cache wipe, Switched off wifi and bluetooth scanning, Switched to 3G only so the phone doesn't scan for 4G network (I am still on an old plan as 4G isn't available in my area) and I've removed some apps but this has not resolved anything. My next step is to reboot into safe mode to see if disabling 3rd party apps altogether resolves it. I shall test this overnight.

Failing that, I think once 7.1.2 arrives, I will carry out a full wipe and manually install apps again.

Any other advice on how to go about this or can anyone recommend an app for monitoring usage/awake times?

I flashed the 7.1.2 beta after a full wipe and a then did a manual install of all apps. Battery life sucks, just horrible. Ran it for five days and went back to MM. You win google, I'm out of the nougat game with the nexus 5x. I'll run MM now until i get a new phone in the fall.

I have no answer for you, sorry. Just ranting again.

I'm running Android 7.1.2 beta with no battery problem. I power off my phone when I go to bed so the overnight loss, or not, isn't something I can check. I would suspect a misbehaving app.

Correct. Everything is pointing to an app keeping the phone awake. I rebooted into safe mode last night and left it with 95% battery. Came down 7 hours later to 92% and that was in a notorious area of my house for weak mobile signal.

When running normally, I go to bed with 20-22% and by morning it is flat.
Now for the fun part of determining which app it is. I previously used gsm battery monitor but I believe due to the way nougat is, it cannot show individual app usage reports now.

Ok, Figured it out.
Turns out that Google now settings had changed from my usual settings and was set to always listen even when screen was off. Back to better battery life now thankfully!!

Hi, I'm having the same issue. After installing 7.1.1 the battery was great, but a few days ago I started having issues, losing a lot of battery like you when the phone is just sitting there. It's like doze it's not working anymore. Can you please eleborate the solution that you came up with? Please and thank you. I'm not sure where in the settings to go and change that!

If you swipe right on the phone until you get to google now which shows news articles you may be interested in then click the three lines at the top left. Go to settings then go to the section called voice. You can change when it appears on there.

Have you tried putting it into safe mode to make sure doze works in there also? If not, Hold the power button then when prompted if you want to power off or restart, Hold the power off section and select restart in safe mode.

Just a note, It appeared doze did not kick in last night for me for some reason. I lost 35% overnight. The phone was playing up a little and acting all laggy before I put it down so I'm not sure if an app went a bit funny.

You might also want to go into the battery app and look at what app / service is using the bulk of the power. I had an issue where an app, that I had used for years, was not optimized for 7.1.1 and was drawing a significant amount of the batter - despite the app being closed.

In this case, the app kept pinging the GPS and the app was closed. Once I removed it, the battery life was good again.

Good point. If you go into apps also, Click each one and you can see the awake time of each app. All of mine were showing 1 or 2 minutes so I knew it wasn't an app as such keeping the phone from going into doze. I've also switched off wifi and bluetooth scanning. Yesterday I managed 4hrs 5 minutes screen on time and still had 35% battery remaining.

Thank you for the responses. Last night I went into Google now settings then into Voice, then "ok Google" detection and I turned off the dongle "From
The Google app" and overnight only lost about 4%. Today I turned that back on and it seems that doze it's working now. I have to mention that I have the "Always on " donggle set to off. Will keep you posted as I see any changes. Also yesterday adroid system was my main battery drain, so something was keeping it awake. Today its 4th down the list after screen, andoid os, and cell stand by.
