Droid 2.1 question?!

it got a bug fix about a month after it was released.
Same as the Hero
Same as the Eris
Same as the Droid
Same as the Cliq
etc
etc

I think the reason why people (including myself) are getting frustrated is because there seems to be no reason for the delay.

When other OS' (BB in particular along with WinMo) have updates due, it takes much longer to prepare because of the different form factors, overlays, UIs etc that various devices on that platform have.

That's why the Sense UI Android users are a little more understanding. Because OBVIOUSLY it would take more time to custom design a UI to lay over a new version of the OS.

However, the Droid has the same screen resolution and 'vanilla android' UI as the Nexus One? So, why? At least HTC has commented and said they want to wait until they can get 2.1 and Sense running perfectly together before updating.

Why doesn't the Droid have 2.1?

It'll be out when its ready. The Droid works fine as it is. It'll only get better when this update is out but it isn't urgent. The Nexus one had some major issues it needed fixed in addition to the bonuses they got.

This, or DL the new 2.1 launcher and the other 4 apps that are unique to 2.1. There is a thread here on it. They work well.

i wouldnt be surprised if droid owners don't see this update until right before the nexus is released on verizon. Just for giggles, if you got this update tom and love it, why would you pony up another $500 for the nexus when the droid does everything it does and has a physical keyboard.
I know this sucks for alot of you, but it is smart. And to quote Genetic_Bloom, I am still stuck on 1.5(with my eris) and am dealing with it.

Some dbag on the phandroid forum is posting that droid is getting an update this week...hahaha this is such insanity

a big +1
Droid was supposed to be a google experience phone that was stock android...however, verizon and motorola are being dbags lol...this is just me being frustrated

Moto,VZW,and GOOGLE all promised Droid users a 2.1 update in Q1 of 2010. So we got another 2 months before thats over.

We'll get it!

But I can share some frustration with this, but its just the tech world! You go out and buy a Intel Core 2 Quad that's all shiny and new, then boom, a week later; the i7 hits.
Same with the hero to the droid, and the Droid to the N1.

I feel bad for the people who don't even have 2.0! I mean, no free Google Navi? Thats what sold me on the droid in the first place.

But rest assured, we'll get it! Regardless of who is and isn't responsible for the OTA push.

funny, this thread looks so much like the ones about the BB storm with a new OS coming out soon as RIM promised but yet we got nothing week after week. Only difference is we have a usable OS on the droid :)

reminds me of the storm and storm 2. I had the Storm and just couldn't justify upgrading to the storm 2 especially with the 5.0 update.

You only need to feel sorry for anyone pre 1.6, Nav was released to work with 1.6 awhile back... Sorry to remind you Eris owners..

Quarter 1 of 2010 its due. Today its February 3rd. How are they being dbags exactly? March 31st at midnight I'll be complaining. Till then its just a matter of waiting.

Try to be happy with what you've got. This is probably the best phone I've ever owned out of the box at 2.0.1 and I've had 9 or so different ones throughout the years.

Word. Plus I don't want a rushed OS upgrade...

So true, so true, can't agree with you more. After suffering through the Storm debacle, this waiting is only a minor inconvenience, if that.

Its still a bit frustrating for Droid owners.

Can't believe the flaming of the OP going on..heaven forbid someone state their opinion on a message board FULL OF OPINIONS.

I hear you. I really hope we don't get shafted and that the pinch zoom is also added to the Droid. I got tired of the baked Roms that are out and want the official 2.1.
Bet as soon as it is out there will be more complaining than anything.

Personally I'd rather have 2.1 pushed out to my Droid now. Let Motorola and Verizon straighten out any wrinkles with it and release a patch here and there to fix issues over the next few months. That's what OTA update capabilities are all about, right?

The Droid is supposed to be Verizon's and Motorola's flagship product, correct? For some reason right now I'm not feeling like either company is necessarily treating Droid owners like that's the case.

The forums is no place for the weak hearted don't think just because the forum rules say we can say whatever we want within reason it doesn't mean people wont tear your apart in here. Most people in these forums came from BB's and know exactly how wild forums could get if you don't handle situations quickly. Then it would turn into a whining forum with a million post about "When is the Droid getting upgraded." People just need to relax its not that serious I can speak for us all and say we want 2.1 but at the same time what is causing a riot in the forums gonna do? I can tell you it wont end up like it does in the BB forums with people kissing your butts and giving you what you want. No one has control over the update but Google, Verizon, and Motorola not one single mod or administrator so again I say relax :-) good things come to people who wait.

If you think this is flaming I'd hate to see how you would react to an actual argument.

The problem is everyone is overreacting to this. I'm not happy to have to wait BUT..I understand I have to. People are acting like because it wasn't released in the first month of the year that google, motorola and verizon hate Droid owners and think we don't matter. That's pretty ridiculous when they have said all along "first quarter 2010" which is 3 months. We're 34 days into the first quarter of 2010. Everybody is freaking out for no good reason and its frustrating seeing topics like this come up and kill off other good potential ones.

Bottom line is there are 2 option if you want 2.1. root it and do it yourself or wait till we get an OTA update.

OTA updates aren't about us becoming beta testers. Its about ensuring a quick and easy delivery method. I don't want to test a buggy 2.1 and have to wait on fixes like Nexus One users did.
