DROID 2.1 Update thread.

Look at it from this perspective:

These are phones. Say they are right in the middle of roll outs maybe 1/4 of the way done then someone reports that their phone got bricked then another person reports that there is some huge bug that makes the phone inoperable. What they can do at that point is stop rolling it out and re assess the software and make sure that these bugs aren't just user error. A slow roll out means more control if there are bugs rather than pushing it to everyone at the same time and bricking everyone's phone.

Isn't that the reason why the update took so long to be released in the first place, because Verizon was testing the update software extensively? If the software didn't brick the test units, it would be unlikely to brick Droids out in the wild.

Ah, wow, two people on Droid Life just got the update and installed it before they could pull it off the SDcard. See here. Posting video soon, apparently.

Maybe a stupid question, but what happens if you're roaming when you're chosen to receive the update?

(If it is a stupid question, easy on the flames, please.)

That's no dumb question! I'm pretty sure if you are roaming, you cannot install the update, and will have to wait to be in a nonroaming area to download and install

OK, thanks! Guess I'll have 2.1 to look forward to when I go down to Kansas City this weekend!

Well...looks like no update for me yet. And no update.zip from the internets. So, I'm going to rest my anxious head and see what crops up tomorrow.

Stay classy, Android Central.

Here you go guys:

https://android.clients.google.com/updates/voles/signed-voles-ESE81-from-ESD56.fa406da6.zip

"This is the OTA 2.1 upgrade for Moto Droid, it will reset your phone to non rooted status. Standby for someone to root.

Rename to update.zip and place in the root of /sdcard

Then reboot to recovery and install (note that you will lose root access, as we do not have a known root exploit for this yet once installed)."

I dont believe there is, as it is just a copied file from the OTA.

My question is however, if installing manually this way, will we still recieve the same file via OTA?

running the downloaded 2.1 update from all droid. Honestly it seems a bit slow, maybe its me but it seems to lag., 3 screens... :(. Live wall papers, Voice dictate in the keyboard.

Nothing better at all than my rooted versions of 2.1 or 2.0.1

Installed 2.1.
When attempting to use live wall papers, it works until I "unlock" the phone, then it reverts to a solid grey screen (with icons) from Panda Home.

How do I get it to keep the wallpaper in Panda Home? Thanks
