DROID 2.1 Update thread.

So let me get 2 things straight....I can download the update to my phone manually and rename update.zip and install using astro? And the second thing is that its the same exact mirror image of the ota that everyone is receiving???

you can download to your phone, use astro to rename to update.zip, but you boot into recovery to install it. It is the ota update

i agree, glad im not the only one. Went back to stock till I recieve the OTA myself, or possibly going back to root where everything is the bomb! GOod Luck People, All I can say Is I hope the Developers Root the 2.1 version fast so we can all have some fun again!

How did you go back to 2.0.1, did you flash the SBF (RSD Lite)? I would like to update just to see what the updates like, but want to make sure i can get back to my rooted ROM.

2.1 ftw

I just did the 2.1 update manually! Works well, thanks Droid people! I used the download link from android.clients.google.com, which I read to be the official download link.

Ok so I downloaded astro and the 2.1 file but can't find it on my sd card to rename it.....

Update: astro wouldn't let me rename but esfileexplorer did.....is there anything I need to do or delete before I boot in recovery and install??

Well, as long as I've been waiting for this, I'm waiting for the official OTA, unless there's more problems. It's so tempting to install this, but I don't want any issues. :) Hope you all are enjoying your fancy 2.1 Droids.

Move the file to the root of the sd card 1st. (I'm assuming you found the file in the download folder)

I was getting the error but as soon as I moved the update from the download folder on the sd card to the mail folder (root) it installed fine. I couldnt figure out how to do it on the phone so I put the sd card in my PC and did it

estrongs ftw!!

and i just installed with no problem its booting now, will have to explore and such but will report back later cuz im at work

Here's a question,
If you download the update.zip to your root directory on the SD card, then go to the check for updates, What would happen?
Will it install if from there?

I downloaded the file on my PC, copied it to the SD card, and ran though the update process. Worked perfectly! It's a beautiful thing!

Just loaded the update on mine from the zip file. No issues, took maybe 5 minutes tops that included the reboot. Everything seems pretty good. Nice and snappy without any lags or anything. Only issue I noticed was that I had a picture frame widget that I had to reload but everything else seems fine. The new photo gallery is really nice looking.

Just manual installed from mirror 1 on the AC tweet post. No errors. Tried mirror 4 first - did not install correctly and aborted automatically.

Holy crap! Snappy snappy snappy! Live WPs are sweet, new gallery is quick, great update! I hope to try out the camera today to see if there is any difference in quality (hopefully there is). My Droid seems faster all-around.

Thanks AC!

UPDATE: Google Earth is AMAZING on my Droid!!!!!!

Loaded, no install issues. One problem so far though is that the gallery is perpetually 'loading.' I had the 2.1 gallery loaded before, anyone run into this?

Nevermind...after about 10 attempts it seems okay now. Odd.
