DROID 2.1 Update thread.

i got it working. just download it. rename it update.zip. place on sd card, turn phone off, turn phone on while holding x on the keyboard, wait....., at the (!) screen press up on volume and camera button at the same time and click load update.

takes about 3-4 mins then click on reboot phone. and there you have it. happy updating to you guys.

running the downloaded 2.1 update from all droid. Honestly it seems a bit slow, maybe its me but it seems to lag., 3 screens... :(. Live wall papers, Voice dictate in the keyboard.

Nothing better at all than my rooted versions of 2.1 or 2.0.1

im feeling a bit of a lag when swiping between home screens. not killer but its a hint there, if you looking close at it.

connect said droid to computer via usb. mount droid for usb mass storage. drag update to the mass storage(i.e. card) disconnect usb from computer. unmount on droid. then take the already mentioned steps stated above.

Sounding like a n00b, I'm going to ask the same question:
Once done downloading, how does one transfer it over to the SD Card?
*a preemptive "Duh-Derr-Arroo?" on my part*

1. Download the file to your PC
2. Connect phone to PC
3. In phone's drop down notification bar, mount the phone. Your computer should then recognize the phone and you'll have access to the sd card.
4. Drag and drop the download file to whatever drive is being used for the sd card. Note that you DO NOT unzip the file. Simply download and leave as is for now.
5. Rename the file to "update" or "update.zip" minus the quotations (with my experience, just plain "update" minus quotations works fine)

And then follow the rest of the steps...

The reason ESE53 was hacked so fast is because the modified su binary was actually injected into the SBF file so it was easy from there. I can't say how because frankly I don't know.

Official 2.1 findings thread

I feel we need this back now that it is actually rolling out if you guys don't want to wait for it to roll to you you can find it here:

https://android.clients.google.com/updates/voles/signed-voles-ESE81-from-ESD56.fa406da6.zip

Or mirrored here:
http://ikith.ath.cx/mearle/files/droid_updates/signed-voles-ESE81-from-ESD56.fa406da6.zip

Just rename it to update.zip put it on the root of your SD card then boot into recovery (Turn off your phone then hold the x button on your keyboard and power it back on then when you get the exclamation point press volume up and camera all the way down) then run the update.zip option and you will be updated to 2.1 ese81.

Discuss your findings here.

Damn, is there a way to manually update ota? I'm on the road for the day and I don't want o wait. :-)

It wont let me download that file, says its not supported on this phone

I downloaded it from a PC.

If you want to DL it from your phone, get Astro, go into its prefs and it will help you there. An option for downloading unsupported files, etc.
