DROID 2.1 Update thread.

Are there more homescreens?

You might want to take a look under Settings > Sound and display. After my Milestone update (Asia) there was a menu entry called 'Number of home panels' (it was the last item at the bottom of the page). In there, you could set 3, 5, 7, or 9 home screens. Maybe it's there for the Droid, as well.

That's the problem, I cannot uninstall the launcher because I can't access the settings on the phone.... looks like back to stock it is... PITA, but not a big deal b/c I have everything backed up on astro.

Correct. There is no rooting involved in manually updating.

I thought that was the case, I am just super OCD about my bab.......erm.....I mean: my phone. And don't want it hurt.

Wow.......super smooth.

So this is the real deal eh?

Unfortunately, it's not. Same old settings as before :(

I manually updated. I just can't wait for OTA, especially if it's going to take as many as 20 days for it to roll out to EVERYONE.

This seems like something that's not that difficult to implement. My guess is this is eventually added to the phone in a future update. It's definitely not part of 2.1 on the Droid.

Got it... I was able to access search and get to settings from there to remove the 3D launcher.

Save yourself some trouble.... remove the 3D launcher if you have it installed BEFORE you update!

I'm glad I have no microUSB cable at work. FML.

You don't need all that. Just get Astro File Manager and you can do it right from your phone :)

Woke up this morning and was late to class so I could install 2.1 :D

Everything is running just fine, and I'm glad to see my grass LWP back...I was missing it from the last time I went to stock.

Yeah there's definitely only three homescreens with no option to change it in this build. Kinda disappointing, but not a killer for me.

Oh and I'd like to add that the on-screen portrait keyboard seems to be a little more accurate, at least with me.

I noticed the same thing. It seems far more accurate, cuz god knows these fat fingers haven't gotten any thinner.

This is what I have gathered after playing with it for some time this morning:

  • Multi touch in the browser and new gallery app
  • Updated gallery app
  • Only 3 home screens still, don't see any option to change this as some have suggested
  • Live wallpapers
  • New News/Weather widget
  • Browser seems MUCH faster and more responsive now
  • Voice input on keyboard, I turned this off
  • There seems to be some lag when first booting up, but it goes away after a few minutes.
  • Scrolling between home screens seems pretty smooth, but launching apps seems much faster than before
  • Setting contact shortcuts on the homescreen no longer brings you to the contact app. Touching their shortcut now brings up the quick contact dropdown menu

I'll have to wait and see on the battery life.

Chris, don't forget to add the fact that we can now run all 2.1 apps in the marketplace. If you have gone and looked, its FULL of new apps

Can A Mod merge the threads also please!
