DROID 2.1 Update thread.

"Rorry, Reorge."

Couldn't resist. ;)

I seem to have stumbled upon one of the under-hood improvements of 2.1, I think. When I'm working from home, I like to pair my phone with my computer so that I can stream music and podcast audio to the PC speakers. Since I first got the Droid, the bluetooth stereo audio streaming has always worked, but it would hiccup every few minutes with a little glitch in the audio. It didn't matter if I had it paired to my home PC or my work laptop, it would always do it.

I did some searching on these forums about that problem and discovered that others have experienced it to. Many said that all you needed to do was make sure nothing else was running on the phone because A2DP streaming was very process intensive. I took that advice, but it didn't seem to cure the audio hiccups.

Well, for the first time since updating to 2.1, I paired up my phone to my PC and began streaming audio, has I have many times before. Except this time, it was different... NO MORE HICCUPS!. It seems that 2.1 was fixed this problem.

Anyone else noticed this?

What are you using to stream audio?

Clinch--when you find out about where the heck Google Earth is once 2.1 is installed, PLEASE inform me. I cant find it in the market either. thanks

I posted previous because I'm having trouble applying the manual update and was wondering if someone could help. I download link 1, move from downloads to the sd main folder and rename update.zip. Then I shut my phone off, hold down x and press power just like the AC video. Everytime I go to do this the Triangle never comes up only the motorola icon. Then it gets stuck there until i take the battery out. Any have suggestions please???

Anyone getting OTA updates this afternoon?? I still haven't received mine.
Me neither. I'm still waiting for the OTA update. I had called Verizon yesterday and the rep said that her co-worker who has a Droid hasn't received it either. She said "in the next few days"... Well what the heck, I've waited so long, so what's another few days??

Anyone else's phones running unusually hot?

Even when not used..........and not plugged in.......

yup, if it let it sit for 15 or so i goes back to normal, not too worried about it though, i think these wallpapers are demanding significantly more out of our CPUs

Just got my update to 2.1. Big freakin' deal. I've been waiting for this? Are you kidding me? ALL that it does that I can see is give me a new Weathers/New thing which is cool, and the new Gallery thing. Whoopie. I didn't fix my being able to mark or unmark favorites in Contacts, it doesn't have the other two home screens (what happened to that?)...but on a good note, it didn't screw with any settings.

Ditto big deal

Hansford, After you see the triangle, you need to hold down both the volume button & the camera button at the same time. Press the volume button first & then press the camera button. That should do it! :)

I ended up taking my Droid to the Verizon Wireless store this morning after it locked / froze on the Motorola Icon screen (it would not finish the reboot after manually installing the 2.1 update). The VZW Rep told me no problem and that it would take just a few minutes for them to completely restore my phone back to the original factory default settings. I was just happy that they could fix it. The Rep returned a few minutes later and said that it did not work, and that my phone "was fried". She then replaced it with a new one, swapped out my old SD card, and went through the set-up process in just a few minutes. As we were checking the phone over, a message popped-up informing that an update was available, and did I wish to install it. I stayed in the store while it updated (total time of less than 10 minutes, including the OTA download time) to ensure that it worked correctly. Stressed out yesterday, but very happy today!

so...why dont you just install the update? it takes less than 10 minutes. I did the manual update on both mine and my brother's droid.

I installed 2.1 successfully. Problem is, no Google Earth icon appeared. I also checked Market but nowhere to be found. Anyone have this issue? Any suggestions on where I might find it? thanks

Over the air.
I've still never seen anyone complaining about marking Faves in Contacts....am I the only one? It won't mark 'em, and I can't unmark the ones it marked on its own one day...

You should be holding down 'x' until that triangle shows up
