DROID 2.1 Update thread.

I got tired of waiting so I decided to upgrade mine while at work no less. Update was flawless, if you are worried about doing it don't be. It was very easy, I really like the gallery and other new items and very much looking forward to 3.0 when it comes out:P

Why don't people understand that Live Wallpaper does not kill their battery?

I promise, if you look at your battery usage info, it'll be using 3% or a number very close to that.

LWP are only on when your screen is on!

So if you don't ever set a timeout on your screen and you sit and stare at it with your mouth agape for about 3 hrs, yeah, it'll hurt your battery.

Don't sacrifice such beauty for what you think is performance! Because you are dead......dead wrong.

What are you using to stream audio?

I've used iheartradio, pandora and also played downloaded podcasts from the sd card. In all of those cases (whether streaming or just playing an audio file off the sd card) it used to hiccup when playing through A2DP over bluetooth. Now, it no longer does that. In fact, I've been streaming iheartradio this morning for about 2.5 hours now and had zero audio hiccups.

I forgot to mention that now with the new weather widget, I stopped using my WeatherBug Elite widget. Opps! Sorry WeatherBug, I won't uninstall you, just might not use you as often.

Wow, I did not know that. I admit, when I received my update OTA this morning and was testing out the Live Wallpapers I assumed the same thing... that running them would kill the battery. I did some people saying they would only use it to show off to other people and then put it back to a regular wallpaper to save battery.

Thanks, it's good to know it won't drain battery that much, but I will do my own experiment and see how much different the battery acts, if at all. No offense.

It was never high res as default, gotta make it that way every time you watch the vid sadly

On my stock Droid, YouTube always defaults to low res if I'm streaming over 3G. It defaults to high res when I'm streaming over WiFi. Doesn't it behave that way for everyone?

This update stinks! The phone is laggy, stutters, and can crash. Live wallpapers are nice but they drain the battery like there is no tomorrow. Complete junk. Where is the Yahoo support promised? I can't believe that we waited this long for this.

BTW- My email has never worked right from day 1. If I reboot the phone it will poll for the first few hours then stops pulling the email. I get phantom notifications when no new email is present.

I can't believe it, but I really, really miss my storm..

does the update only come at night? I switched back to my tour to get the update for it now i switched back to my droid to get its update. My droid has been turned off for about a week so I am hoping it comes tonight. I checked for updates but the phone told me i was running the most current program.

I thought it did. I checked when I got up at 6:30am Pacific and it wasn't there. Just now picked up my phone it said the update was ready to install. I'm excited!

Anyone else have a terrible 2.1 update process?? It downloaded but never installed to my phone. I had to call verizon and they are shipping me a new one out which will be here tomorrow. Anyone else have such difficulty??

Got mine last night. Install took less than 5 minutes. Love the news widget, but since I'm using Beautiful Widgets, won't be using the weather widget. The gallery is cool. Could really care less about live wallpapers. Does anyone know how to add local news to the news widget?

The wall paper made the keyboards lag big time so I went back to standard wallpaper. Everything else runs faster with the update.

Revert back to 2.0.1 and then root. I promise, you won't miss anything blackberry after that.

To add local news, open the widget, go to the Menu softkey, go to Settings > News Settings > Select News Topics > Custom Topic, then put the name of your city, so it pulls up articles relating to your city

I just got the notification this morning, but the funny thing is I am rooted. I didn't think this was supposed to happen. Anyone else get this? The notification window pops up to update to 2.1 almost everytime I unlock my Droid.

So GenericMessage, after reading your post, I sat down and really thought about things. After a soft reset I have now found that my battery is back to normal. I don't know if it was all in my head, but things have settled down. I am even using the live wall papers. Thanks.:)

2.1 Manual Update

Hi all - new to this forum.....

I never received the pushed firmware update from Verizon, so I downloaded and manually installed it. To date, I still haven't received an indication for OTA update.

My question is - does the fact I downloaded the update manually now stop all of OTA capabilities?

Thanks in advance!

Not ALL. You will no longer receive the OTA update for 2.1 because you are already updated to 2.1, but you will still be able to receive future OTA updates.
