DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

So, thanks to timmy10shoes (one of my Bionic mentors), we have a new method for people to use to get to JB. All of you (including myself) who rushed to upgrade are going to kick your own @$$ now. :) Trust me. Using the cdt.bin from the 246 FXZ and using it to replace the cdt.bin from the 98.72.22 FXZ, you can then use the House of Bionic's FXZ Keep Data option to upgrade to JB. Big deal, says you...I'm already upgraded....so what....Ah the skeptics. The big deal, says I.....say you don't like JB or can't live without root. Fine....put the 246 FXZ back into the House of Bionic and downgrade away. :D "WAIT, WHAT??!! I heard, FROM YOU, that I'd brick my phone doing that!" Yes, YOU will...cause YOU took the update and didn't use this process. Therefore your security is updated. Using THIS method, however, the security is NOT updated and you can happily downgrade to your heart's content.

I take NO responsibility for those that try this. This is a USE AT YOUR OWN RISK and I will not provide ANY support for it whatsoever. But it has been confirmed to work so long as you follow the quite simple directions EXACTLY.

A word of warning...those who took the JB update already, don't bother. You're screwed. You WILL brick.

That's great if you want to be unrooted on JB, because when you do a full fxz you lose root, so you would have to go back to ICS to root unless by some miracle we get a root exploit for JB.

That's the trade off. For some people who don't know if they want to move to JB, this is a good way to test it out and go back if they didn't like it. You know, like your wife? :D ZING! I had to. :D

This wouldn't apply to me, but could one go that route to JB, then go back to ICS if they like it, root, then update the traditional way to keep root?

They could. It's a gamble as some people have been lucky with restoring root. Others haven't. I built a failsafe into the latest House of Bionic to help but there's still no guarantees.

no, you can't because when u fxz, u also lose your su backup!!!!!

I'm wondering what would happen if we took our updated security cdt.bin file for 22, replaced the cdt.bin file from 246 then tried to fxz back? I'm guessing we would still brick but just a thought.

One of my sons just did the deed. I directed him thru the process.

He did NOT temp unroot in OTA Rootkeeper b4 taking the plunge, and all went A-OK. He used the file that was OTA'd to his device from Big Red.

HTH FWIW in Sam's wtf file.

Now can anyone please confirm for me which of the few published ADB procedures is the best for attacking the one bionic in the family remaining with the 'partial root' issue? tia,

That's nice. But that's not what he asked nor what I answered.

Yes, you would brick on boot.img.

Go here, this is what fixed my same problem. For those with 'partial' root after JB update - regain root! - xda-developers

There's a link I posted a few pages back.

So, does anyone know of a way to get a clean copy of logwrapper? Or does silence just mean I'm being lazy and should be searching on Google rather than wasting everyone's time?

Can't use the JB kernel (boot.img) on ICS. You'll get a nice non-working system that way.

As for logwrapper....why not just flash the system.img from the 246 FXZ and reroot?

Is there any hope of us getting a root exploit for 99.72.22 or is this probly not going to happen? The reason I ask is, I love my bionic, but without root it's just not the same and I may just buy a new phone.

I was one of the few that were able to retain root but I know that we are able to flash the preinstall.img to our phones, so if someone knows how to edit the preinstall.img to include pushing busybox and su, and remounting the system, the root problem would be a thing of the past but all that is over my head. I just know that there is no security on preinstall so maybe that can solve the problem.

Anyone else having issues of high background CPU usage? I've noticed lately, specifically during the overnight hours, my phone will get warm even though i haven't been doing anything other than having the screen on and plugged in. Android Assistant will show CPU running 50+%, with both user and system running high. Unplugging it and letting the stock battery monitor record some doesn't show anything out of the ordinary. Occasionally a reboot settles it down, but not always.

I thought it was the Backup Assistant, but disabling it only seemed to work that first night. Next time, Android Assistant reported the Favorite Contacts widget was taking up a lot of CPU, but removing it from the home screen didn't seem to do much. So now I'm stumped. It's still running hot for a while at night doing... Something, but can't get a reliable reading on what it is. Even when it is settled down, it's still using a little more CPU than it did on ICS, but I keep it plugged in so much that's not a big issue.
