DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

Would that be the same Dan on the Motorola feedback network? Who's avatar is young Frankenstein.

Fortunately I was able to interpret these feelings correctly: loss of essence.

ROFLMAO! Oh hell no. That particular Dan would NOT be releasing root exploits. If you even MENTION root over there you get banned. LOL. Dan Rosenberg...aka djrbliss.

I'll only say this. Dan R has REPEATEDLY said that if people want root they should buy unlocked phones.

Verizon is going to go with 22 if 21 contains bloatware, from what I understand they will along with removing the Verizon app store, they are removing bloatware and allowing us to install them from google play if we want them.

Aren't unlocked phones like $500? I would love to but I wouldn't pay that much just to make it easier to toot. I just can't afford that kind of cash for a phone.

Thought you'd like that one.

My brother is DLing the JB update right now on his Razr Maxx

The thought had occurred to me that the VzW bloatware could be wasting the company money, if no one is really using those apps. Before I disabled them, I would be notified of updates for them and surely someone gets paid to tweak those apps.

Curious, will you guys use Google now. For some reason I'm so excited for JB but I have a general distrust for signing away my privacy. Very ironic

Been catching up since this morning. I can understand(well I can't ever but from their idiotic perspective) VZW pressing the issue on a piece of bloatware on current cycle phone but on an EOL phone wouldn't it just be more efficient just to drop it quick as possible if they know it automatically means a better build? Looked at my wife's Razr a little more. Seems a bit smoother for sure and I dig the expanded notifications. My wife is rather nonplussed by it because all her custom ringtones got reset...yeah she doesn't get it lol

I use it on my Nexus 7.

In all honesty and please don't take this the wrong way - if you "care" that much about your privacy, you wouldn't be using Android a smartphone.

Awesome. That's good news. I figured the crISIS was averted when I started reading these posts this morning.

I'm guessing there was an affair between someone at Moto and Verizon that made this all work out...

Re: DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update - ICS Alternatives

Actually, I'm pretty much satisfied with my Bionic on ICS. What I've played with JB doesn't hold any must have features to do what I do, so I'm really thinking of doing the Eclipse or similar bare-neked android thing and waiting for the nextgen Note II, the only other toy that tempts me, as I think it could get me that last step to abandoning a full computer altogether, a personal goal.

With all the reading I've done for the last 18 months since taking the android plunge, I think I understand this: If I accept the JB OTA the kernal will be new and I'll not be able to revert easily or at all to ICS, at least on a bootloader locked box like our Bionic. I will certainly NOT accept JB until I'm fully sure of rooting it, as I am so way dependent on the things I need to be rooted for.

For many and varied reasons I'll still at some point going for an unlocked bootloader device so I don't have all the wasted space of multiboot (I'm constantly fighting storage space since I'm trying to run on one phone device sans computer).

If I missed the mark about the kernal thingy, smashtrash me, but please point me to where I can circumvent the issue.

I can always take the RISKY route of letting my wife take the JB on her Bionic, supporting it, then . . .

Sometimes, not always, I get away with that sort of bleeding-edge gutsy thing, but I've only been brave enough just a few times, and only without letting her know what's up . . .

Now, in closing, I wish there were a button to 'Thank' the entire thread, since this one of all the many I try to follow is almost always my best and final solution to my questions or leads to them in one way or another. Consider this a thumbs-up to all the fine folks here -

You are correct about the locked bootloader. Once you take the jb update, there is no going back to ics. That being said, we can keep root through the update using voodoo root keeper. The razr boys and girls have been able to do that. But if we don't have a working exploit, then if something goes wrong or if we have to fxz for whatever reason, then we could be stuck without root. I'm hoping we get lucky and the root exploit for the razr jb (razr blade) will work for us. We have a few volunteers willing to try it once jb is out so we'll know fairly quickly. And who knows, maybe Dan saved another moto exploit for a rainy day.
