DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

Well I broke my bionic and went into the Verizon store. They added an extra line on my account for $10 and put a galaxy nexus on it. Then they switched my bionic over to the new line and put the nexus on the unlimited plan and boom, I now get to keep unlimited with the nexus and no contract... Pretty sweet phone too imo

I use a lapdock every day @ work. It is definately much faster than ICS. I know they didn't update anything with webtop but for whatever reason it's much faster. I can flip through apps and screen with a much noticeable improvement.

Hi All,

Back again.. I am trying to update my bionic. I had the code 7 error so I fxz'd it and did a full fdr. I selected root from HoB and when I have installed Superuser it wont let me update the binary. When I try to update the binary it gets all the way through until gaining root access then I get a ....fail...message. Everything needing root seems to have it I just cant update the binary. Any ideas????

Steve

Go into app settings, clear the cache on superuser, and try again.

What's everyone's thoughts of jelly bean itself?

Fortunately I was able to interpret these feelings correctly: loss of essence.

It is very good I got to play around with the Movie Maker app [edit: movie studio], that's not the real name, but it is very cool its kinda like iMovie. Also the voice recognition , the new notification pull down and other small touches are so much faster. The only thing I would say that is really odd is that the Google Play Store does not match any of the other apps and there are various visual inconsistencies across the OS. The new Google Play Store almost looks like Windows Metro. The camera is also and Google now is awesome I can't wait till they add more features. I use my phone as my GPS device at work to get to new job sites and such, typically I look up the address on google on my computer at work and then send the link to my phone Wiz Google talk. But amazingly I just searched for the address on my pc and when I turned on my phone Google now had the map already shown and it said something along the lines of 26 minutes travel time to destination and you just tap that and it goes straight to the map. Although it is weird as Google now recommended a restaurant to me. It was quite funny. It was out of the blue and random.

Overall, everything is running just fine. I updated mine through recovery as I couldn't wait for OTA. That was a big step for me I use my phone for work and was nervous stepping outside of my comfort zone. The process was easy.

Good to hear this as I to use the web top a lot. I have not tried my web top yep with JB. The web top definitely needed a speed up.

SamuriHL, I tried the root method that you sent to me, but it failed. says Error: adb could not be granted root access via local.prop method

Try again from the start, but if the problem continues, check your version of Gingerbread -- hopefully you dont have a version where this exploit was fixed.....

I have Sys Version: 6.7.246.XT875.Verizon.en.US

Anybody else having scrolling issues with Google Now after you've done a google search? It's like there's a dead space on the screen or half the time it just doesn't register my thumb swipes to scroll up and down. It's really annoying. It kind of reminds me of the hacked version that was out for ICS.

Yes mine acts awkward sometimes too. It is very slow at figuring out when you say call John Doe Mobile, it will **** around for about 30 seconds and then finally go up oh you want to call someone. But I am impressed with Google now so far even though it seems very alpha.

My battery life has been excellent since getting jb. I have an extended battery and 6 hours in with moderate use.. Also Pandora for about an hour straight and still got 80% juice.

Keep in mind that's a $240 premium you just signed up for.

I flashed the update earlier today and so far it's great. Very smooth, very fast, and apps seen to be running better.

SamuriHL, I tried the BionicRoot a couple times.....no luck....I keep getting the error about the version of GB....It fails on step 3 of the exploit...

After exploring around, I've pretty much decided JB is much ado about nothing for my purposes. It has some nice aesthetics that I like, but that's about it. The phone doesn't seem any smoother and scrolling has a little jerking just like in ICS (then again, the phone already seemed snappy in ICS, so maybe everybody else is just catching up? :p), Google Now is working great by staying shut off and not sucking data and battery power, Swype is broke on the stock browser and now learning Swift Key since I'm not a fan of Chrome, the voice dial prompt blasts full volume in my headset independently of Bluetooth volume, and lost the stock music player.

That said, I'm not completely irked. It was fun finally dabbling in root and I do think I'll get used to the changes or find workarounds.

Long time lurker and first time poster. I have read every post of this thread over the last few months and I want to thank Samuri for being such a superstar. HoB has saved me more than one time and let me update with a fresh rooted install of .246. I have been been freezing the **** out of all the bloatware and getting V6 SuperCharger up and running on JB and it is a definite improvement over pure stock. I was wondering what the best way was to get some new governors and I/O schedulers loaded up. I tried flashing a .zip of some governors for ICS in SafeStrap, which I thought would work because we are still running the same kernel from ICS but I just ended up bootlooping (thankfully I had already made a backup and just restored). Should I just download some modules and load them at boot with Script Manager?

Well I'm happy to report that I'm currently connected to my home wifi on the Bionic with JB just fine. We have one of the routers that the Razr lost the ability to connect to with their update, so I'm very surprised the Bionic is ok.

Quick question that is probably Jelly Bean related. Charged my phone to full about two hours ago. Only have cell service on (no data, location, or Bluetooth on). In fact, it's just been sitting idle in my pocket.

However, I've drained over 5% so far with Android OS at 34% and MEDIA at 19% of the total. Is that part of the "indexing" of music and video files that I've read mentioned a few times? I do have several GBs of music on my SD card as well as a digital copy of SKYFALL, so there is a substantial amount of media on my card.

Calculator.apk from stock Bionic ICS 4.0.4 request.

I'm hoping someone here has a copy of that and we can find a way for me to beg and obtain it, since the /system/app is missing it which causes an "assert failed" in the JB update routine.

Please?

Fingers crossed,

rp

Not when I dropped my insurance wich was $7 and I am getting someone to get a phone on that line and pay the $10. Now my bill will actually be cheaper. :-)

Ok I am feeling totally stupid but how do I save the file to my sd card? I downloaded the update zip file and I can find it in my downloaded file folder under device storage but when I boot into recovery and try to install it doesn't show up on the sd card.
