Droid DNA update

P.M sent to across1949 and mattbooty.
Wish I could make it easier and post the link but as said in previous post, I'm not sure if Android Central allows external links to XDA and I don't want to chance posting it without approval and getting banned.

Still no update here in Palm Springs, CA. Anyone else in this part of the country get the update or not? Give a shout out.

I'm in Long Beach, Ca ...and yes, I have the update. Have you manually gone into setting and software update and check now?

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have done that. I only recently re-activated the phone today on the VZ network though. I switch back and forth between this phone and my iPhone constantly. I love the HTC phone as it's so much easier to read for someone in their 60's like me! ;)

Texting is really slow now...

You type in the text, hit send and it sits there for 3 seconds before sending.

I've had the update for 24 hours now and...I don't like it. Things I miss and/or are annoyed by:

  • I miss the unlock ring; the new unlock isn't cool or fun, and is a little skippy
  • The "zooming weather" on the prior lock screen. The weather on the new lock screen is boring.
  • Text notifications on the new lock screen are boring too. Where's the the old bigger one with the contact's picture??
  • I'm furious that double-tapping the home button no longer gives me thumbnails of all my homepages for instant access to them. WHY would HTC remove that simple but handy tool??
  • Infinite homepage scrolling - why give that and now take it away? I grew reliant on that too.
  • The app drawer now scrolls vertically instead of horizontally. Okay..whatever, HTC. Was it really that crucial to switch scrolling direction?
  • The stupid 3 x 3 spacing of the app drawer. At least that's fixable through the Grid Size option (though that's hard to find)
  • The 4x4 animated weather widget is gone and replaced with a black-and-white, non-dynamic 1x2 tile? No thank you. I used to enjoy the animations when checking my weather, and being able to swipe through my cities. Now that is all impossible. WHY?
  • The photo album widget used to show thumbnails of your last 24 pictures or so; now it only shows a big version of your last photo
  • The People widget no longer allows me to do a vertical view showing each person's latest activity; now it's just tiled profile pics.
  • The time and weather in the app drawer is completely useless. I don't go to my app drawer to get the time and weather.
  • The text bubble colors are horrendous, at least with my personalized background. I can't see my replies.
Has anyone discovered a work-around or solution to the above? Barring that, is a launcher like Nova really something I should consider? Can I download and use a launcher without losing my current homepage settings, in case I don't love the launcher and want to go back? Thanks!

I love the nova launcher. I would give it a try. It's simple and can be turned on and off really easy. Also the text bubble thing really grinds my gears...can't use custom.background.

Yeah, but now the notification bar is transparent!!!!!! Just kidding, even though I do like the new notification bar.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is a work around for your issues barring rooting and going back to the previous version. However, a third party launcher and different apps will restore some of the functionality you're missing. Give Handcent a try to replace the stock sms app; it's very customizable. I personally think launchers are great, and I've tried most of them. My personal favorite is TSF Shell, but it's pricey, so I would recommend trying Nova, Apex, or ADW first, so you can see if you like them. Once you download the launcher, you will have to set up your home screens again, but if you decide to go back to Sense, your screens will still be set up the way they are now. And if you have any questions about the launchers, don't hesitate to ask.

Got mine yesterday (Friday 12/6) no problem.

Still getting used to Sense 5 and Android 4.2.2

Not sure I like how the lockscreen support is implemented, was used to using the Dash Clock Widget on my Nexus 7. Definitely prefer that to what HTC is offering here.

I also notice that while using my DNA it is as fast or faster than before ... the battery life is far worse!

Battery is draining much, MUCH faster than it did on 4.1.1 ... anyone else seeing this ???

My battery life has gotten worse with the update to 4.2.2. However, I don't think it is a lot worse. The drop in battery life was worth the update, which is far better than Sense 4+.

Has any1 found a solution to the text messaging issue? I think the issue might be related to the default keyboard. Could someone please confirm? I dont have a DNA, but my gf does, and she has been bugging me non-stop about these issues

Update went fine but strange change in the Gallery. Pictures start moving on their own.The video mode. Is there a way to stop it and go back the the old gallery ?

My battery life went from excellent to AWFUL. I was getting around 15 hours with moderate use and since the update the most I have had is 8 hours. It's ridiculous.

I miss the carousel screen rotation. That was extremely handy for me since I only use three screens for all of my daily applications.

They also messed up the music app by grouping all of the albums into one list. What's the point of that when you want to listen to a certain song on a certain album?

OH AND I CAN'T STAND THAT THE LOCK SCREEN CLOCK IS AT THE BOTTOM. WHO LOOKS AT THE BOTTOM OF THEIR PHONE?! /end rant

Is it just me, or is the camera 100000x better now? One of my biggest gripes about my DNA is that the camera just couldn't focus for crap. I had to tap about a million times for it to ballpark the right focal length. I had to go through two DNA's (first one had a faulty GPS), and both had this issue. Now the camera is SO MUCH BETTER!

Not sure if the update will reek havoc on my battery life since I just installed it tonight, but it feels like I got a new phone for Christmas :D. When I first got my DNA a year ago, I sorely regretted my decision and coveted my family members' Note 2's. Seeing their devices act up constantly, and finding out that my first DNA was just a lemon, makes me appreciate my phone so much more than when I first got it.

Have to ask though, what's with the new screen lock--"10 attempts remaining before device data is deleted"...? If my sister snatches my phone and tinkers with the screen lock, everything on my device will get deleted?
