Droid Does Contest Counter: Timer & Waiting Room

Re: Droid Does Contest Counter: Waiting Room (timer/updates post

Why pick boingboing in the first place? Im sure this is just a stunt to hype this thing.

Re: Droid Does Contest Counter: Waiting Room (timer/updates post

I had never heard of the site before reading that they were one of the blogs sent a code for this. Now after they have finally posted something on it and I see the response it gets from them and their following I have to wonder why Moto sent them this? Where there really no other good blogs out there? I don't fully understand the blog's purpose, but can't help but think it doesn't serve one ;)

The comments are funny, btw. Down with "The Man"!

No clue who at Moto picked BoingBoing, but it was really dumb. Despite their interconnectedness with some of the tech/science community (e.g., Wired) it really doesn't fit at all. I suppose they were trying to diversify the audience and get the Bionic out to people besides just the phone buffs, but you have to consider exactly what the blog is and what it does. BoingBoing has shown an independent and somewhat rebellious streak in their time, so thinking they'd go along with a big corporate PR piece was kind of dumb on Moto's part.

BGR, AC make obvious sense, even Joystiq I can see. What, no Engadget? Heck, even grab one of the other sites like Phandroid or one of the other community driven sites. Makes much more sense than BoingBoing. I'd even rather see a very technical site like Anandtech get it over a BoingBoing.

Horrible move.

So according to the official rules I can use street view to find "prizes." That seems much easier than the Android app anyways lol.

Ya this def backfired. I can't help but to agree with Boingboing, however. The video IS just an add, and all I care about is the tech. But the heads ARE really neat collector's items in the LEAST. Some one (albeit for a large corporation) spent a lot of time putting their creativity and effort into those sculptures, and its kinda pisses me off seeing BB going at them like that.

The way I take it is... they weren't asked to take part. They were told something would be showing up.. enjoy. (subtext: help us market our stuff wink wink). Unless they're getting something out of it, hell no. Verizon should've checked with all of their recipients first to see if they'd be interested in 'supporting the cause' instead of it being dropped in their laps and told to be happy/willing.

That's according to BB. Honestly, it might sound a little lame, but I think this is a big image thing for them. They probably agreed to do it, but on their own terms. This really shouldn't be all that unexpected for anyone who knows about BB and how they've reacted in the past.

As a blog site, they should be more than willing to step up to the plate to enter a simple code. It's textbook self-marketing 101. The fact that they're too dumb to enter the code that came in the case, broken or not, just tells me that site isn't worth visiting ever again. But, I agree, BoingBoing was a poor choice to send something to. You don't send a viral marketing ploy to your crazy neighbor down the street.

No i don't mind them shunting the advertising side of it, i also sense they feel a disrespect towards, what i consider art. I guess that is the inner geek in my that would squee 'till my squee'r was dry if i had one of those heads. Totally irrespective of their advertising origins or agenda.

Yeah, I've had BB in my bookmarks for a long time and they're really not a good fit for this kind of promo.

They'll promote some random starving artist selling something cool on etsy, but a global corporation? -no way.

Exactly. I enjoy the site, this promo just definitely isn't their style. Though how they've handled it so far is. :)

I didn't even notice the post on their site until now. Well I'd very much like them to enter the code, but I'm not going to push it. I'll end up seeing it when I get home tomorrow anyways, the countdown timer should reach zero by that time.

Lol I completely disagree. They just don't care about this stupid marketing campaign for moto/vzw. Does that make them idiots? They didn't ask to be involved nor were they asked if they wanted to (at least if you go by what they're saying).. They're just doing they're own thing and they don't care about unlocking this dumb video for a bunch of nerds so they're having some fun with it. Sorry... lets take a step back and agree that its just a stupid video for the stupid contest guys. I never heard of boingboing before yesterday and I'm sure I'll never hear of them again, and I doubt they care about that either, lol.

If any of you guys are really obsessed with the still-locked 5 seconds or so of this silly video and angry that you can't see it, the only people you have to blame are the ones at moto or vzw who chose to send the code to boingboing.... for all the effort they decided to put into this marketing campaign, they really dropped the ball by not making sure they picked someone who was interested.
