i was able to purchase the code for my maxx1080 2014 model i ran through the steps when i type fastboot oem unlock xxxxxxxx the phone says (unlock) and then its sits there so i just power up normally, and then its like i never touched it. when i go back into fastboot it still says locked? what am i missing?

My bad, I forgot a HUGH step.... gotta edit my instructions....

after flashing recovery you need to scroll down one line using VOLUME DOWN key in BOOTLOADER menu to "Recovery". Then press the VOLUME UP key to select. You will now have android in distress (belly down with red alarm over it). Press and hold VOLUME UP for several seconds. Keep holding the VOLUME UP key and tap POWER key.

You will boot into TWRP recovery and you are all set!

Private message me if this does not work.

Keith, I think you did not forget this. Look at instruction number 10 in your original post. Or do you mean that this has to be done a second time?

I actually did forget the VOLUME UP key and POWER key step in my original posting. I amended the instructions to include the step as best as I could describe, so the instructions should now be accurate.

Where are you at in the process? Somebody accurately posted earlier that the ROM version is not a factor in unlocking the bootloader, as this is a lower level routine and independent of the operating system version. If you can accomplish the "fastboot oem unlock" command with success then you should be in good shape. If, on the other hand, your phone does NOT unlock then you either have: 1) bad unlock code 2) bad ADB setup 3) improper command syntax. What is the assembly date on your device?

Try this - with your phone on. Plug into your USB port, open a CMD window, type "adb devices" and hit enter. You should get a string of AlphaNumerics reporting that you have a successful bridge. If not, power down your phone and reboot into BOOTLOADER.

Next, scroll down to FACTORY and then press VOLUME UP to select - this does not reset your phone but is changes the bootup slightly. Now, power up the phone - make sure that USB debugging is selected in DEVELOPER and try the ADB DEVICES check again. If you still do not have a bridge then you have an issue with the ADB setup or hardware glitch on the computer.

If you do get a ADB DEVICES response, type "adb reboot bootloader" and hit ENTER. If you have a good bridge, this will take you back to BOOTLOADER mode on the droid. If it does not, then you definitely have a hardware/ADB problem.

If you do get back into BOOTLOADER MODE, type "fastboot oem unlock [enter your code here]" and hit enter - your code should flash and the bootloader will now report that it is unlocked. If you are able to get back to BOOTLOADER MODE but the unlock fails, then there is an issue with the unlock code.

Best of luck, let me know how it goes?

Keith

I read your PM that you got it! Congrats on the unlock!!!! Have fun with the root and give a shot if you find any interesting ROMs or software.

I flashed CM11 and played around with it, but I eventually went back to stock ROM. Well, heavily modified stock ROM with LMT launcher and some toys thrown in.

Anybody have a link or advice on how to enable the wifi tethering once the phone is unlocked? Sorry, total noob here and just need pointed in the right direction. There's so much BAD info out there I find when searching...

Install Xposed framework from here.
Xposed Installer | Xposed Module Repository
Then install the module from within the app called - Moto tether or X tether. I think it was renamed.

Same same - I sent him Paypal ($45 now) last night around midnight (night owl) and received the unlock code this morning at 9am. I plugged it in and it works perfectly. Now, all I need to do is figure out the rooting part... LOL..

Would you mind pming me his email? Thanks so much =)

Settings - Wireless & Networks - More... - Tethering & Mobile Hotspot - Mobile Hotspot

There ya' go, no need to install another app, it's already part of the ROM
