Droid Maxx or LG G2?

I dont know what powerplaygraphix is talking about.....
ALL android phone are based on "nexus" roms. the manufacturer will then change and add features as they please since its written with Linux style codes.
thats where open source comes from.... Vanilla android is downloadable to anyone free of charge. Then they customize it.
The G2 will not have a unlocked bootloader unless they sell a developer edition, (doubtful)
The Moto is WAY closer to stock android VS the G2. Its not even a close comparison.

Its what he probably is trying to say is that the Motorola phones in the past have very difficult boot loaders to unlock (rooting)
it wouldnt stick for some reason and would lose its root access.
But Remember that Moto will most likely be the more "future" phone because of google owning them. This doesnt mean it will have an unlockable bootloader at will. but it will most likely get more updates and in a more timely fashion.
Plus why root the moto? no real reason unless you want to tether without the carrier knowing. or you want to start developing apps and need a phone for testing and sideloading with permissions

Trust me... The LG software will get old. Just like the S4. I have been with android for 5 years now.... and no matter what phone I buy or use... I eventually want to root them and put the "nexus" roms on them because its just timeless and just always works perfect. The Galaxy S4 GPE is the best phone I have ever used and wouldnt change it for anything at the moment.
The LG will be dead and old news by the end of the year... mark my words.

(before I get flamed... The LG G2 is an amazing phone and not taking anything away from it, But IMO, the Moto is just a better phone all around regardless of "specs")

Nexus is a brand of PRODUCT, ANDROID is the OS. What I'm talking about is the fact that the NEXUS 5, the next actual ANDROID Flagship phone is rumored to be made by LG and the phone it's self will be identical in hardware to the G2 except the placement of the buttons. Same Screen, Processor, Camera, Ram, Video processor, etc... The process for rooting the G2 is already out on XDA so if you plan on rooting, that's not a problem. Also, to clarify. All the Droid Brand that were just released are the last of the designs made by purely Motorola design team pre Google takeover. The Moto X is the one that was designed by Google, both Hardware AND Software to control the whole experience, even more so than any of the Nexus devices. They share several features but the X is getting better reviews.

One thing you can do if you want a few more answers on the G2 is to check out the podcast on the Androidcentral.com podcast on Google+ tonight at 9PM eastern. https://plus.google.com/u/0/events/chn497abll7jb10052bh5c8k70o .

The Droids share a lot more than a few features with the Moto X.

They are all essentially the same. The only differences are screen size, battery size, and physical construction. All the guts, CPU, GPU, camera, X8 compute platform, natural language processor, it is all the same.

With all do respect I know a lot about BRAND NEXUS AND ANDROID. But thanks for the clarification. I see what you mean. But can you tell me how many developers are still active for the LG phone based on the nexus 4? I rest my case. If you need a link..... Google xda. And have fun.

There are no specs or guarantees at this moment regarding the nexus 5. It could possible have a different screen resolution or size from the G2. And if that is the case. The "NEXUS ROM" or aosp will need to be ported just like any other android phone on this planet.

If you are planning on rooting I would DEFINITELY go with G2. The G2 is rumored to be the base for the next Nexus so ROMs will probably be ported over to it faster than any of the Droid brand products. It's got MUCH higher specs and it's $100 cheaper. Again, for a more true "Android" experience on Motorola I'd go with the Moto X since it's the same spec wise but it's been optimized to run much better than any of the Droid brand.

Root has already been obtained for both phones. It looks like they also have tethering from what I am reading at XDA. I am less likely to have an urge to flash ROMs with the Maxx as it is fairly close to stock. I guess my question is down the road, after any updates, is either of these phones likely to lose root and consequently my ability to tether.

If you root don't accept future updates if given the option to install. Instead, install a ROM based on the latest rooted update to keep root and tether.

Forgive me for saying this but the iPhone has shown us that you don't need the most cutting edge of specs to achieve a good experience. (Ie: Dual core, 1gb ram etc).

Motorola have gone down the route apple did, tailoring the hardware to the software. I think for most OEM's because there is only so much you can add to the phone, it's a race of 'who can get the fastest processor, most ram' etc into a phone.

I personally like the droid maxx and moto x phones but can't get them here in the UK :(

I'm curious. Are there any Vanilla Android roms for the G2? On that topic, how do I install a ROM, since it has a locked bootloader?
