DROID TURBO: FYI tethering does not work (resolved 10/31)

Re: FYI tethering does not work (for me or the store rep's personal droid turbo)

Mine fired right up. Maybe your phone didn't fully get provisioned?

I agree it sounds like a provisioning issue on the surface, but so many phones? Something is definitely borked up with the Droid Turbo provisioning somewhere. I too get the subscription message. Fortunately, I'm not at work today (heck, I only have 350mb of hot spot data left anyway until the 2nd).

Re: FYI tethering does not work (for me or the store rep's personal droid turbo)

Who pays for tethering still when the FCC and courts have ruled that Verizon cannot prevent smartphone owners from using third party tethering apps (and the data they pay for) in whatever fashion they see fit?

FoxFi a.k.a PDANet functioned fine on my original Razr Maxx, and I can confirm it's working on stock Droid Turbo. And it costs $8, one time. That being said, I haven't tried the Wireless access point function, just USB tethering.

I own PDANet and used to use this on Sprint, but was under the impression this was a no-no with Verizon and that they monitored for it and there were repercussions if discovered. Perhaps I should reconsider.

Has anyone TRIED using PDANet with the Turbo on a Windows 8.1 machine? I would gladly make the effort, but my GF works nights, and she's off today, so my phone playtime will be on the back burner today.

Yep no tethering here either. This I can kinda live with for a day or two. However between this and the no voice + data at the same time while not near a wi-fi connection makes this phone unusable. The phone is great. However Motorola and Verizon screwed the pooch on this one. What is this, 2008?

It was a Verizon mandate. They don't want new phones with hardware for CDMA simultaneous voice/data competing with their soon to be released LTE simultaneous voice/data which will be much faster and clearer. They estimate VOLTE will roll out for these new phones within 90 days and they are naming it Advanced Calling 1.0.

Re: FYI tethering does not work (for me or the store rep's personal droid turbo)

I too have the subscription error when I try to start the hot spot. I have a trouble ticket into Verizon wireless and it has been escalated to a level 3 Engineering ticket. But its not only my turbo. I have an S3 on the account that also should be able to launch a hot spot and it gets the error as well..So I'm not sure if this is a device issue or an account issue. I was using a jetpack before I got the turbo so we have never used a hot spot on the phone on the account.

They said it may take a few days to resolve but the more people that call with the issue, the higher it will be prioritized.

Just wondering Firedogee, did you use a hotspot on your previous phone? That may be why yours worked.

Re: FYI tethering does not work (for me or the store rep's personal droid turbo)

I had a Droid Maxx - Wifi Tethering worked great yesterday morning - Bought the Turbo and no Wifi Tethering. Have exchanged twice now and all 3 Turbo's will not Tether.

Never had a Hotspot on my account

Re: FYI tethering does not work (for me or the store rep's personal droid turbo)

I had read somewhere that a person used their old SIM card in their Turbo and it the mobile hotspot worked fine. I can't try this as my old phone used the larger SIMcard. Would having the Verizon replace the SIM card make a difference? Anyone out there about to try their previous SIM? It would be interesting to find out.

I think you might have solved it! All of these phones were shipped with preinstalled nano Sim cards. Maybe some of them were bad? Mine is working fine but others are not.

I just put in the sim from my (still active) 2014 moto x. Tethering worked immediately.

Looks like it is a sim issue.

Thank you so much. I was dreading going to work today without a hotspot, but the USB tethering will do just fine. You rock dude.

USB tethering doesn't work either.

Re: FYI tethering does not work (for me or the store rep's personal droid turbo)

Same problem here, no hotspot. Called verizion, got to second level support and they opened a ticket to engineering. It worked on my old phone but as many have said, they did not transfer my SIM card because of new size. I mentioned the SIM card on the phone but the second level support person didn't think it was a factor :)

Re: FYI tethering does not work (for me or the store rep's personal droid turbo)

We purchased two Droid Turbos (64GB). Ended up returning a z3v for one of them. The one that was exchanged, they just used the SIM from the z3v. For mine (came from a Droid Maxx) they used the new Droid Turbo SIM. On my phone, the mobile hotspot does not work, on the other phone with the sim from the z3v, it works fine.

So definitely an issue with those using the mobile hotspot with the native Droid Turbo SIM.

Hey there, are you saying that foxfi mobile hotspot works on your Turbo? I get the following message "Your carrier has blocked WiFi mode in latest phone update. Please use USB mode or Bluetooth mode instead." Is this not the same for everyone... My phone or SIMBis defective?

Re: FYI tethering does not work (for me or the store rep's personal droid turbo)

Switching sim cards also fixed the tethering problem for me (old phone - Droid Maxx).

You went to the store to swap SIMs? I'll likely do that this evening.

USB tethering doesn't work either.

It worked for me, I just tested it out. I downloaded the free foxfi version, installed PDAnet on my laptop, and it was good to go. Loaded a few websites, even did a speedtest on it, and I was pulling 12 megabits, which is on par with speedtest on my phone.

Re: FYI tethering does not work (for me or the store rep's personal droid turbo)

I found a short term work around until Verizon can figure it out...

Go into manage apps, all apps, and force stop the entitlement app.

Actually it may be a permanent solution, it survived a reboot.

This did not work for me. Neither did clearing data in this app.

I am paying for tethering on an unlimited plan, are you on a shared plan, or ?
