Droid wanted to swim... so it vibrated itself into the toilet

Lol well I deliver pizza so I could easily have my phone stolen while it's in my car and I'm not...

And yeah I think I paid for it either with my Visa credit card or Visa debit card... can't remember really but I'm thinking I did pay w/ credit. I will definitely look into this...

When I added insurance to my Droid I asked the Rep a few questions. I told her I ride my motorcycle a lot and if I got caught In the rain would I be covered? Or what if I dropped it in the toliet? It's covered she told me so you should be OK.

Asurion covers lost or damaged phones. And by damaged phones I mean any type of damage whether its in pieces or wet. I was a technician at Verizon about a year ago and we would have tons of people come in with wet phones and we would give them the number to Asurion. They would mail you the phone and you would have to mail them your old phone. They also don't give you a battery. Verizon now has the ability to do insurance claims in store so if you get a nice enough tech and store manager you might be able to get a refurbished one on the same day.

An added tip for the rice trick is to put it in a ziplock bag instead of just a cup. The rice trick can be a life saver!

Put it on the TV face down for 72+ hours and see what happens. The static electricity will do some amazing stuff.

My daughter knocked my old Blackberry into the pool.. took me about 3 minutes to get it out of the pool.

> Key is to turn it OFF immediately, and do not turn it back on again.
(I tried turning mine one right away, and it got really hot and the screen steamed up. I think I cooked it)

> Take out battery, and put everything, inside a ziplock bag with dry, uncooked rice. Also, put as many of those silica gel packets in there.

> Put on top of your TV, especially those older ones that get warm.

> Leave it there for like a week.

> Put in a new battery, and pray.

I've read on web that to do it right, you need to remove the battery, and actually immerse and rinse the phone completely, with DISTILLED water, shake it out, blow out as much water as possible, then do the above steps. I don't know.. sounds a bit extreme, but I guess what's to lose.. the phone's probably toast anyways.

ASURION.. they'll cover it. Who knows how the future will go with the Droid.. if it's like Blackberry, eventually, there will be websites and YouTube showing you how to take apart your droid to replace this or that. You might as well keep the Droid for possible future spare parts. Just tell Assurion that the phone got stolen or dropped off a pier (that what I said) so you do not have to send yours back. You may get a refurb, but mine was fine and still is. My wife uses my old Assurion replacement Curve 8330. I couldn't tell if mine was a refurb, but telephone customer service was fantastic, and they shipped my new phone to me super-quick. I used my old water-logged BB to replace my trackball, and the USB charge port.. (so maybe mine was a refurb? hmm...)

GOOD LUCK.

I would do a dip in rubbing alcohol first then rice. the alcohol will displace the water and stop corrosion..

Complete protection of your wireless equipment. It combines the benefits of Asurion Wireless Phone Protection (offered by third–party insurance agency) with the Verizon Wireless Extended Warranty** program. If your phone or covered accessories are inoperable for any reason – lost, stolen damaged or malfunctioning – you can be covered. As a convenience to you, the monthly fee for this service is charged directly to your Verizon Wireless bill.

$39 non–refundable deductible per approved claim

I'm not telling you to say you lost it or it got stolen.

But if it did you could get a refurb droid ;)

... Committing insurance fraud... Its always a good idea!

Oh and if you say its stolen you have to file a police report and give asurion some information regarding that report... However if you are caught and the phone isnt really stolen its insurance fraud. I would just pay the 90 bucks for the replacement and be done with it.

I have the Asurion insurance.

My Droid fell into the toilet about a week after I got it, I submitted the claim, paid the $80 deductible, and got a new phone in two days.

Last week the replacement managed to make it's way into the toilet. Yup. I put it on a ledge in a public bathroom to avoid my previous mistake of having it in my back pocket... and still it managed to make it's way into the bowl.
So I called Asurion and I can pay another $80 and get another phone, but then they will drop me from the insurance.

Just thought I would share this bit of news in case any of you have the same bad luck I do.

OH, and I did all the things people say to do, took the battery out, put it in rice. It appears to turn on, but nothing comes up on the screen. All the lights are on, but I can't do anything with a dark screen.

I think they allow 2 claims a year now. They got tired of people taking advantage of their service so that was why they added the smartphone category pricing as well.
