Droid X Gingerbread update

Can someone tell new how to root the official gb build, z4's not working for me.

It cannot be rooted using any of our current methods and it is doubtful that it will be rooted anytime soon. I would SBF back to froyo, root, then install the two part update. Then you will have root on 596.

Dang, I thought it happened already, so what's the difference between the two updates?

I was on 595 and I SBFed to stock froyo, then rooted and installed droid2 recovery, and then finally installed the two part gingerbread rom. Doing so, I still have root on 596 official.

Were you on the rooted 595? Seems like alot to do since all you had to do was flash Deodexed 596 right over it

  • download this file
    Get Update.zip on Wupload.com
  • place on the root directory of your SD card, and then turn off your phone
  • While the phone is off hold the HOME and POWER buttons at the same time until it turns on
  • After a few seconds you will see the android logo/guy and what looks like triangle alert symbol behind him.
  • When you see the logo press the SEARCH key
  • If you placed the linked file (update.zip) in the root directory you should see it listed, use the volume up/down keys to highlight it and then press the camera button to select it, and it should start from there. When done it will say update is complete and just select "reboot".

I see some people are saying to clear your cache, but I didnt and everything went fine.

i dont know if you have to but I unrooted, and unfroze any programs that i tried to freeze, because it wouldnt let me update with them frozen. So I would say just remove your root and that should get to pretty much back to stock, its what I did and it worked.

Are you sure this will work because I am already on the Stock unrooted Droid X. Also is this the official version that the soak testers are recieving? Last question, will I be able to receive future updates from VZW if I install this update since I did not receive by OTA? The reason I ask is I only want theoffical/ soak version, not the unofficial one. Thank you.

Got GB working on mine.

100% stock DX, the file I dl'd was 114MB, and I cleared the cache before updating.

Seems to be working just fine.

So I cleared the cache before I added the update.zip to the sd card and now I'm just showing a screen that says:
Bootloader
30.04

Battery OK
OK to Program
Transfer Mode:
USB

What do I do or am I screwed?

Thanks in advance!

Its what I did and it worked for me. As for future updates this as far as I know IS the official update, its just that you are getting it early, so you should be good for future updates.

can I download this from my phone or do I have to download it on my laptop? and how do I get it onto the root of my sd card?

You can probably download it on your phone but it is most likely easier to use your laptop. As for the root directory its the main folder. So for example when you put your sd card into your computer and open it up in My Comuter its the very first folder you see. So for example if you were to open up your "C" drive on its root directory you would see the Windows, Program Files, Users folders,

Where did you get this theme?

Yeah that's where I got it from.

Im not rooted right now.. So my question to you.... was the only thing you done was to place the zip on you sd card and run it from there? or are there some other steps.. also when you go to status portion on your phone is the .596 built showing? Last question do I have to be rooted before running the zip. I just want to be sure before proceeding. Thank you in advance.

I have stock DX and downloaded correct update file, but after I clear cache and try to install it keeps saying no file or directory found...aborted. Ugh!!!

I had the same thing, check the name of the update file. It was update.zip.zip not update.zip. Once I changed it back things worked perfectly.

I ended up doing an sbf back to 2.2.1. and doing a factory reset. It's gonna be tedious to get all my stuff back to the way I like it but at least it's fixed. Thanks for all the advice nhugh406!

Anytime. Hope you're a happy gingerblur user now.
