Droid X Gingerbread update

Whenever I try to open a contact it immediately closes the dialer. Anyone else had this issue?

just loaded the gingerbread update from the link on the first place, update.zip. Working flawlessly! Lol my wife takes my phone and compares it to stock froyo, and she is like it is so much crisper!

so... i'm effing frustrated. I'm on stock .340 (just sbfed back last week in antic...ipation), tried dling the full signed version from the first page. both links on the resulting forums come up w/ an error when I try to install saying the file is unsigned and installation aborted. I'm done. When's ota? LOL

Sorry, there's no real point to this. just frustrated and needed to vent. Though if anyone has any advice other than the droid 2 bootstrap method, i'd be more than happy to try it out....

Mine keeps giving me the same error, I'm getting frustrated already. I had to wipe my phone. Now all my stuff is gone and GB is still not working...

Are you downloading the update.zip file on a computer or on the phone itself. Someone else posted that downloading the file with the phone didn't work until he downloaded the file with a computer and copied the file to SD card root directory.

This is what I did and was able to update from stock froyo to the signed update.zip gingerbread.

Excuse me for butting in since I'm having the same issue, but that is what I did since the phone download was only 1 KB, still the same issue...gives failed update aborted error.

Same issue, seems to be with the "corporate sync authenticator" possibly. I froze this app and would get that issue. When I unfroze the app in Titanium Backup it stopped doing this. I can reproduce this error every time I freeze the the application and restart the phone. Not sure if you have any apps frozen, if not this could be a corrupted file.

    Get Update.zip on Wupload.com
  • place on the root directory of your SD card, and then turn off your phone
  • While the phone is off hold the HOME and POWER buttons at the same time until it turns on
  • After a few seconds you will see the android logo/guy and what looks like triangle alert symbol behind him.
  • When you see the logo press the SEARCH key
  • If you placed the linked file (update.zip) in the root directory you should see it listed, use the volume up/down keys to highlight it and then press the camera button to select it, and it should start from there. When done it will say update is complete and just select "reboot".

I see some people are saying to clear your cache, but I didnt and everything went fine.

i dont know if you have to but I unrooted, and unfroze any programs that i tried to freeze, because it wouldnt let me update with them frozen. So I would say just remove your root and that should get to pretty much back to stock, its what I did and it worked.

these instructions were perfect. than you. easy to follow and ridiculously easy to do. I'm really enjoying the update, and highly recommend that anyone reading this thread and thinking about doing it go ahead and do it immediately!

Does it get placed automatically in the root directory or am I missing something. Also when it gets downloaded it is update.htm. do I need to rename it?

It actually gets saved in the "download"folder on your sd card. You'd need to move it to the root using a file explorer. The one that's included on the phone works fine.

If it downloads as .htm, you'll need to dl it with your pc and then transfer it to your sd card root.

Once you do that, boot into recovery, wipe cache partition, and then apply sd card update.

Good tip! I unfroze everything and it seems to be working, so for future reference titanium backup freezing apps seems to cause issues...

Why should I have to download a link and use recovery? To me that's not official. I thought it was just supposed to happen OTA. I even tried to go into settings/about phone/system updates. It says I'm up to date but I'm still running Froyo 2.2.1. Any Ideas as to why this is?:( I'm running stock.

Major Thanks to CJ100570,
I found his post on Friday and follow the instructions on how to bring the file to my SD card, and how to install it on the phone. The new gingerbread update has been running flawlessly all weekend on my stock Droid X.

Thanks again, CJ100570

Mike

Because all Droid x owners were part of the initial release. Vzw pushes updates in waves, thus not everyone at the same time gets the update. The download is official, it was just pulled from a user's phone and put on a file sharing site. That's the only difference. You may absolutely wait for the ota, but there's really no defined time that all users will get it, hence why vzw is releasing the update for manual download on the 1st.

when I try dling from the phone, it dls as an .htm file which just points back to the wupload page i initially tried to dl it from. I've also tried dling to mac and transferring to sd card, didn't work from any of the different links i dled from. Also tried switching out my SD card since I read somewhere that may be the problem. Also, didn't change anything. I think it's just a sign that I should slow my roll and wait for OTA. Otherwise I might have to put in an insurance claim for a new phone... "honestly, I don't know how it got run over!" haha

I guess I don't understand. How could you not transfer it via your computer and/or not download it as a zip? Unless there's an issue with your sd card (you wouldn't be able to access the gallery) or you don't have the appropriate drivers loaded for the phone, it should work.

But then again, computers and phones alike are great, when they work properly. Haha
