Droid X Gingerbread update

If you want to receive the update OTA, then, yes, you need to go back to stock. Otherwise you have to follow one of the manual update paths.

Thanks! I'll try one of the other paths. I just hate the idea of putting the phone back to stock and losing everything..

none of the manual updates have worked for me, be it either deoxed or oxed, or fully signed stocked. Either it comes up as signature failed (for the 2 rooted) or i get a long error for the fully stock one. Have no idea whats causing it either. :(

Were you on 2.2.1 or were you on a leaked gb build?

I know I had to do a factory reset and a cache wipe before I flashed.

Sorry. Your issue sounds like a pain.
Maybe try downloading the file again?

Side note. Has anyone experienced their hard keys not illuminating when they're supposed to (in low light)?

Its sporadic and a battery pull fixes it, but it's kind of annoying having to do that systematically everyday.

I would try downloading the zip file again. Did you download the zip file through wupload or megaupload? The one I downloaded from wupload didn't work for me and gave me the signature failed as well. Then I tried the megaupload zip file download and it worked perfectly.

I had the same problem when I downloaded the zip file from wupload. I found a zip file from megaupload, downloaded it and it worked perfectly. I'm not rooted so if you aren't either heres the link:

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service - non-rooted - stock froyo to gingerbread

Just to be clear, if you are on stock Froyo or SBF'd to Froyo (because you were on the GB leak) and it is UNROOTED then all you have to do is DL this file (no others) to your PC and then

  • Place on the root directory of your SD card, and then turn off your phone
  • While the phone is off hold the HOME and POWER buttons at the same time until it turns on.
  • After a few seconds you will see the android logo/guy and what looks like triangle alert symbol behind him.
  • When you see the logo press the SEARCH key
  • If you placed the linked file (update.zip) in the root directory OF THE SD CARD you should see it listed, use the volume up/down keys to highlight it and then press the camera button to select it, and it should start from there. When done it will say update is complete and just select "reboot".

Correct? Sorry to be asking but I just want to be sure.

You have it right, that's correct. That's what I did. I was on stock froyo (not rooted) and downloaded the file to my pc and then transferred the file onto the SD card and followed the steps you mentioned.

Yep, and Im back and running. Got scared for a moment when I saw that sync icon and though I had installed the older leak. But nope, Im on the latest and greatest:

System Version: 4.5.596.MB810.Verizon.US
Android Version: 2.3.3

GB finally up and running.... was on froyo running apex 1.4.1... SBF back to stock... rooted via z4... ran the two file GB update... eventually everything worked out.

qudrant scores are great,1600-1700 so far no overclock.... I was getting 1300-1400 on froyo.

the alarm/timer app has issues for me... the alarm part is fine... but the tab that is supposed to have the timer is blank.

Seeing ads all over my apps sucks for now... until the roms start coming out and cure that issue.

I can't comment on the blur factor, since I use launcher pro plus.

i started on 588 and went up to 595 and its not rooted now. i tried from wuploads, and the 2 part from megaupload. i guess all i can do is try downloading again?

Am I the only one that is having constant issues with low memory since moving to Gingerbread? My guess is there is even more bloat thanks to the new Blur. Its getting ridiculous as of late as applications keep getting shut down in the background constantly. Honestly if this doesn't stop I may have to go back to Froyo. The Galaxy S II cannot come soon enough for me at this point...

What's the difference with freezing and uninstalling these apps? I uninstalled apps like kindle, vzw navigator, etc. via titanium

Freezing them leaves them on the phone but inop as opposed to deleting them all together

Ok, Instead of doing a SBF I just removed Droid X Bootstrap (Uninstalled app and deleted hijack and the logwrapper file). I also unrooted using Z4Root. Ive been sitting for the past two days hitting check for update, and if I am on 3G the phone checks, and 30 seconds later comes back as 'check for update could not be performed at this time.' If I am on Wifi the phone just sits there searching for an update; I have left this as long as 30 minutes and no messages come up.

I know I can download and flash to GingerBread, but I was wanting to see if I could geet OTA by just undoing my mods. The only thing that could be holding me back is I uninstalled City ID, BlockBuster, Kindle, and Madden.

Anyone else had their phone just sit unable to find the update? I will probably wait until tomorrow, and if nothing then perform a SBF.

Jonathon, I'm jumping into this thread late and haven't read through it but somebody must have mentioned that this hasn't been released to the masses yet and is still in the pre-release "SOAK" period, where only a select number of handsets is getting the update OTA. If not, there, I just said it :D. The other issue you are definitely having is that you uninstalled bloatware like City ID, BlockBuster, etc. You absolutely need to have those apps on your handset if you want the update OTA from VZW. I'd recommend an SBF back to stock as the quickest way to ensure you'll get the update OTA. Just don't expect to be able to root GB right off the bat. Currently the only way to achieve root on GB is to install it pre-rooted. That link has been posted half a dozen times. The installation is fairly simple if you know how to SBF and you know how to use Droid 2 (NOT X) Bootstrap.

Still not seeing the OTA and too nervous to root. Hopefully we will get that OTA pushed before the Pro gets Gingerbread

Having those apps uninstalled will definitely prevent you from doing ota

So here's a quick run-through of my update to .596. I was running Rubix Focused 2.0.1 and it was smooth as silk. Consistent 1500s in Quadrant. ADW EX Launcher. It was as close to GB as you could get without actually having GB. Backed up all my user apps with Titanium Backup, typed up an app list just in case, and SBFed back to stock. I went with the 2 step process that's been posted everywhere so I could keep root. The update was...almost flawless. The red M popped up, but then the Rubix splash popped up and got stuck . Battery pulled and viola, GB is running without (another) hitch! Installed Titanium and froze whatever looked like VZW or Moto bloat/blur and slapped ADW EX on that mofo. I installed Quadrant, rebooted and ran several benchmarks, pulling consistent 1600-1800, with the one outlier being a ~1950! Still wishing I had a screencap app installed for that one.

Anyway, I'm currently quite happy with most of GB. Battery life doesn't seem to have improved much but it'll take time for me to measure that properly. The only problem I'm having, which is actually a major one, is the dang East-West reversal in Maps/Nav/SkyMaps. Hopefully Google will finally release an update for those apps soon. Until then I'll just use my Nexus S4G for GPS purposes. Now comes the wait for the ROM developers like Rubix to step up and give us something like Focused for GB.

Thanks for the replies...I had seen mention of the current OTAs being the 'SOAK', but I wasn't sure if that meant I would be unable to pull it in manually or not until tomorrow (one article said June 1). This is my first OTA for an Android device.
Guess I will SBF tomorrow morning and keep trying to pull in the update. I have everything backed up so it will be simple.
