Droid X Gingerbread update

Thanks for the replies...I had seen mention of the current OTAs being the 'SOAK', but I wasn't sure if that meant I would be unable to pull it in manually or not until tomorrow (one article said June 1). This is my first OTA for an Android device.
Guess I will SBF tomorrow morning and keep trying to pull in the update. I have everything backed up so it will be simple.

If you're looking to root your phone once you have GB i would wait before updating. Right now the only way to obtain root is to install pre-rooted .596. If you take the OTA there's a chance you won't be able to obtain root and any backups you've done with programs like Titanium will likely be useless. Give the "X"perts a few days to find a root method and if they can't, don't bother with the OTA. Update with p3droid's rooted method and enjoy.

I had the same problem when I downloaded the zip file from wupload. I found a zip file from megaupload, downloaded it and it worked perfectly. I'm not rooted so if you aren't either heres the link:

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service - non-rooted - stock froyo to gingerbread

Yeah...tried this one, too, and got the "failed to open/sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory) signature verification failed installation aborted" reply.

I am doing this on a MAC so not sure if that is causing the problem or not...any ideas folks???

Thanks!

Non-rooted stock Froyo - was waiting for OTA but finally lost what little reserve patience I had... Did manual update using update.zip.

All went very smoothly, and like several others I found that I did not have to clear my cache. Should I expect any issues if they haven't shown up yet?

I have a Mac as well and I noticed that once the zip file finished downloaded it would automatically go into my trash for some reason. So what I had to do is open my trash and take it out. Then transferred the zip file from the trash to the sd card. The zip file I have is 117mb. And I noticed that the zip file I was putting onto the sd card before was a lot smaller than 117mb, more like 25mb or so.

I think macs just don't like zip files. Got to work today, dled the same file from megaupload that i tried last night, put it on my phone, and it worked flawlessly. Could not find a file to work from mac at all. Meanwhile, FINALLY on GB again, and hoping things work a little better than the .588 build for me :)

Safari doesn't like .zip files. It changes the way they're signed. Use Firefox or Chrome to download the file. That should fix your problem.

I found that the problem is Safari unzips files automatically. I went into Safari preferences and unchecked "Open Safe Files After Downloading". Re-download and it will work.

I have the unrooted DX, so when will the official Verizon update be ready? And what website will I need to go to to find the link?

Official DX Gingerbread 2.3.3 (4.5.596) Release Thread - Something for everyone

Sorry all, I did a forum search and couldn't get a good answer anywhere but wanted to ask before I tried installing this file. How do I wipe the cache on my phone? Does it present as an option during the process or is it something I have to do manually before I start? I don't want to get into this and not have it all set up right first. Thanks in advance!

At this point, those of you with stock phones not running GB yet should wait until tomorrow. You will be able to pull it with the "check for updates" option in the system menu.

Is GB supposed to available for everyone at midnight tonight? What's the word now or don't we know?

wondering the same thing, cuz it's not like i'm going to bed any time soon so if i don't have to do it manually i'd rather spend the next hour on these forums waiting for midnight

I want to say thank you to everybody in here for helping out with manualy updating GB. First time i have loaded any OS and it went smooth. (well had a brain fart and boot looped the first time) but everything worked out great. Thanks for all the help.
