Droid X Gingerbread update

ok I waited for the update..it went fine...love it cept for 1 thing and i need help with it..the sync icon that would come up for gmail etc is stuck up on the notification bar. it looks like my gmail is syncing all the time, but it isnt.
how do I get this to go away?

To get back to Froyo:

- settings/apps/development/turn on USB debug
- download SBF file
- install Moto drivers for DX / Win7 64
- install RSD Lite (4.8 or 4.9)
- hold cam/vol down/power buttons to power to bootloader
- plug in to PC
- Run RSD Lite in admin mode
- select device and SBF file
NOTE: Sometime installation hangs at 100% and reports to manual reboot, at this point you have to pull battery, unplug cable and enter back into Bootloader mode by pressing Volume Down + Camera + Power and then plug cable back in. RSDLite should read Complete Successful after connecting and then you can power down,
- Power up into recovery by pressing Home and Power
- Select Search (Right Button)
- Select Wipe Data / Factory Restore
- After complete select Restart

Where do I download an SBF file?

My keyboard is messed up after the update. I can not switch between symbols/numbers and letters like I used to. I have to hit the 123/abc button but the keyboard remains the same. this is not a problem until it defaults to numbers and I need a letter, then its just a guessing game. I also have to hold down the arrow button for capital letter sometimes, Its now almost unbearable to type on it. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Other than the keyboard I love the look of the new update its looks awesome!!!

I use a third party keyboard, Smart Keyboard instead of the default. However, after updating to Gingerbread, I did switch back to the default and did not experience what you describe. I switched back to Smart Keyboard because I like it better.

My device will not fetch the OTA update. It gives the "Your device is up to date! No update is necessary at this time." message even though I am still on 2.2.1. Is the GB update being rolled out in phases? Is there a way I can force the update other than Settings > About phone > System updates?

It was being put out in waves so juzt remain patient. The only other way to get is flashing it yourself.

That's the only "automatic" way. There are links around for where you can get it manually and transfer it over to your phone.

Are you on Verizon or another network? Because Verizon made it available supposedly for all to be pulled via About Phone \ System Updates some time around midnight EDT on the May 31/June 1 overnight.

Has anyone else noticed the number of ghost apps that came with the GB OTA. I'm reffering specifically to Lookout and my security scan. On Tuesday the 31st, it scanned 231 apps. On wednesday, after I downloaded GB, it scanned 267 apps, and I sure as heck didnt download 36 apps in a day. But I dont know where these apps are coming from except the google books? Any info is appreciated.

Interesting!!!!!! How many apps do you have downloaded? i wonder if the update made a copy (backup) or something of apps that were already there? Sounds fishy or Phishy!

If you don't have anything frozen and or removed then it should be just a matter of time.

I pulled the update and I think the download was corrupted. The launcher doesn't work, and any app on the homescreen force closes after opening. It loads the homescreen, its just unusable. Any suggestions that dont involve loosing all the data? its not backed up.

Well, I figured it out. Lookout is scanning all apps including system apps. I went into the manage apps-all and counted them. 267 on the nose. I guess lookout has been doing that all along cuz I only have about 60 Apps downloaded.

Noobi help

Ok, so I'm kinda drinking from the fire hose here and would like to request some help. I'm not completely new to android, but have never been interested in rooting or custom roms.....however, I just bought a Droid X on ebay and it came rooted. I found a thread that directed me to download a terminal emulator and type in su....it gave me the # sign, so I know its rooted. I'm also noticing that all the bloatware has been removed as well. What I'm not clear on is how to determine if I am running a custom ROM. As I said before, I've never been interested in rooting or ROMs, but I'm thinking that since this phone is rooted and the bloat removed I would like to keep it that way....but I would also like to get some of the gingerbread features I've read about. If anyone could advise me on the following questions, I will appreciate it.

How can I tell if I have a custom ROM?
If I dont have a custom ROM, can I upgrade to GB and stay rooted? Would I have to remove the bloatware again?
(edit: i am currently running version 2.3.340.MB810.Verizon.US)

If I do have a custom ROM, can I upgrade to GB without taking any steps, or do I need to load a standard ROM? I can say that the update has downloaded, but I havent installed yet for fear of messing up.

Thanks to anyone who can help out!

Sounds like you are just rooted. If you want GB though you're going to have to get into flashing because that's the only way to keep root too.

Has anyone noticed a faint static coming from the speaker and headphones after the update. It only shows up when there is sound coming from the phone, I don't notice it between songs but during songs or processes that emit sound. You have to listen closely to hear it.
