Droid X has officially launched!

GTvert90 and/or MolecularGraph: sorry if you answered this somewhere already, but did either of you hold the phone up to your ear? I've read doing so feels rather awkward. The same article pointed out that the speaker phone sounds muffled when it's lying on it's backside, because the speaker gets covered up, which is the first time a reviewer had said that. I talk on the phone a lot for work, and a good quality speakerphone is essential for me.

I did sort of hold it like I would for a call. And like i said the phone does feel big. But I don't think its something you wont' get used to. It seemed like the edges were more square/boxy then the eris I'm using now and the incredible I've had / am waiting on. The hump in the back didn't get in the way the way I hold the phone. Obviously we may hold the phone differently.

My guess is it may feel awkward because of the squareness and size.. But its not heavy so I don't see it being impossible to adjust to. Maybe it just takes longer than the reviewers have?

I didn't try speaker phone. But I thought I heard that the hump helps get the speaker off the table so it doesn't get muffled?

Thanks to both of you for the feedback. Every time I start to worry about something with this phone MolecularGraph has a response that makes me not worry about it anymore lol...

I thought I heard the same thing, so it surprised me to read that. I guess everyone's take on things will vary based on their own perception.

I'm just glad your asking Cory, seems like too many people are getting it no questions asked, atleast with you, you can hopefully put some other peoples questions down while your asking away.:p

Be like the rest of us with no lives until then, just keep hitting up the forums!

I am headed up north with my husband and our kids Tuesday and Wednesday. *Hopefully* that will help keep my mind off the X. However, I am so wishing I had my X to take up there with me instead of my BB Curve. :(

Ouch, the curve, Im sure you saw my signature... yep should have been called the blackberry fail... but ya know, have fun trying to forget about the X for a couple days.

Tried the phone

It's my first post, so hello!

Just wanted to add my experience when I tried out the phone several days ago. One of my friends had a Droid X for development purposes. Anyhow while we were at lunch I had a chance to place a call and I did check out what it was like to talk in a restaurant with the noise canceling mic and speakerphone.

Noise canceling worked well enough for the person I was talking with to not ask me to step out. (I typically have to step out when I use my 3GS.) We were at a Red Robin in Santa Clara and it was packed as usual. I tried the speakerphone with the phone flat on the table screen facing towards me and the person on the other end came through loud and clear. They were also able to hear me and everyone else there too.

I tried the speakerphone on its side, like it was in a desk dock and it sounded loud enough to hear clearly and the person on the call could hear me well.

I'm definitely considering this phone when it's available.

I used to have a BB Curve 8330 and loved it. Now I have the 8530 and holy ick Batman! No flash on a whopping 2 MP camera, cheap feel, etc. Add to that the fact that I am in a low signal area for Sprint and it makes for a disaster. The phone is constantly looking for signal. I am now charging it for the 3rd time today and all I've used it for was a 10 minute phone call to my husband while he was out on the boat this morning and some text and web browsing. Mama needs her Droid.

Oh well. I guess some retail therapy up at the outlets will help ease my pain.

autonomous: Welcome to the forums & thanks for your feedback! That's exactly what I was hoping to hear.

See Cory!? Nothing to worry about, are you always this cautious buying a phone? Jk, but yeah I didn't think Motorola would be cool with some bad speakers, just isn't them, however even motorola will have a fluke phone every now and again... Q 9C is case in point... got the phone and the camera quit working that very day, didn't take it in cause I just don't use cameras on my phone that much, but none the less, the programing on the phone for the cam was completely gone, surprised the hell out of me, downloaded the cam files and installed them, but they kept auto deleting themselves over and over, so idk, it was weird.

Lol, OCD is a better word for it. Seriously, I have now doubt it will be great. The reviews have been overwhelmingly positive and if it's anything like the original Droid, it will be rock solid, which is more than I can say for a few other brands who's names I will not mention ;)

Just say it.... Samsung....

On the other hand, you are in Hawaii, so who really are the lucky ones, eh?

You comment raises another question - when does Verizon really flip the switch to enable online orders, midnight EDT, perhaps for everyone?

see at first i thought it would be a benefit cuz there are a lot of verizon stores compared to actual population but I went to the verizon store and they said 20 people have came to ask. im just lucky that they know me because i have been harassing them for 3 weeks already LOL

I believe that they meant living in Hawaii is way better than the rest of the states... being that it is after all Hawaii...

Hey, do you guys think Verizon customer service online (chat) will be available at midnight? I haven't looked at their hours.

Hey all,

I just cant contain myself til 8am Thursday morning when the Droid X drops and mine gets pulled from behind the counter in its own little holding spot just for me! Im pretty excited if u couldnt tell already i managed to get a friend of a friend to hold one for me,first for me to get a new device that soon! Wish me luck people! Im sure its gonna b an awesome trouble free device!!!

I'm sure there will be some minor issues as with all smart phones, but I too am monsterly excited for Thursday. My local Verizon store opens at 9am and I will be there.

I may even take off work Thursday just so I can play with this bad boy all day without interruption.

See you on the other side.
