I have a few questions regarding out of country use... I am going to Greece in about a month. I know I can't use my phone there because of CDMA/GSM networks. But...

Can I use my Droid X with wifi locations over there? (i assume yes, just double checking)

And, will GPS work without a cell signal? (I know maps won't be able to download w/out data, but is there an app available where you can download maps for other countries?)

WiFi will work just fine and obviously there's no charge from Verizon's end. You may want to turn off data roaming just to be safe, you never know when you'll get too close to a cruise ship and download the entire Internet ;)

GPS will work without a cell signal, but it doesn't work in Airplane mode (as of Froyo) and it may take longer to lock onto a signal - especially the first time you power up after the plane trip.

Check out Maverick for offline maps, I ended up getting the pro version. Make sure you play with your stuff without connectivity before you leave just so you can get used to it.

Get a third party GPS app

You will have to get a preloaded GPS app for GPS mapping.
Google Maps won't work without a constant data connection or wifi.
I heard copilot is good, but the European version is more expensive then the US version.

Mtrip might be an option if you only visiting a few cities, because you will have to buy each city.

I was just in Greece for Business in Feb.

WiFi will work just fine in Greece.
I don't have any recommendations on GPS software, but I do know Google maps works fine off WiFi.

You can get a loaner global phone from Verizon for a small fee if needed. This will allow you to use your US number in Greece. Plans and service can get pricey this way.

The other option is to get a cheap unlocked GSM phone and buy a sim card in the airport.

Enjoy your time in Greece.

oh yeah, i hadn't even thought about Skype. Thanks!

Make sure you download Skype For Android. The stock Skype Mobile app from verizon does not allow Skype over wifi. You can't remove the skype mobile app so I have both installed. Just use the Skype for Android version and it will work just fine. Load your skype with some funds in case you want to call non-skype numbers. And if you do, don't use paypal to fund skype as it can take several days to fund. Funding with a credit card is instant.
