Droid X pre-order from Best Buy

Didn't see if anyone asked and/or responded but...does BestBuy do alternate upgrades. As a line on my account is available for upgrade but I'm the main line and want to take it?

Say What?

i have infact heard of people pre ordering the Droid X from Verizon through corporate. 1800-922-0204 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting**************1800-922-0204******end_of_the_skype_highlighting i think the number is. i confirmed it also i called to see if i could pre order one and she said i could no problem

I don't get it though. I just talked to Verizon Wireless corporate the day before yesterday and she said they are absolutely are not taking preorders. I asked her to double check because I had seen posts like yours. She (supposedly) did, and said no preorders.

Is there something you did here to change the customer service rep's mind? Do share :D

The 3 reps I talked to at my best buy said they cant' do that verizon won't let them.

I've done it multiple times threw Verizon with no problem. I called Verizon customer service to see if something changed and they said that there shouldn't be a problem doing an alternate upgrade. And if I really wanted to get it threw best buy, and best buy wouldn't do it, then upgrade it on the eligible line then call Verizon and they will switch it around

It's actually easy to do it yourself. Either do it from the website or the phone directly. Doing it through the phones then once the X is activated then turn the phone off that you want the line on and dial *228 on the X. You press 1 then enter the phone you you want to program it to and enter the account password. Then reprogram the upgraded phone to the original line and your set.

I forget about that... In my case I'm the only line with a data plan.. So if i upgraded on another line they would need to sign up for data and I think I'd have to call Verizon to have them change that. I'm not positive tho.

The *228 thing is relatively new right? maybe the past year or so? I remember I always thought I had to call.

In the past you either had to call or do it on the website but now. The *228 to reprogram any phone is great now. Makes life much easier to swap phones.

I'm doing the same thing as you and I'm not sure if you have to take it off. We have three lines with data plans and one that does not and of course that is the one that is eligible. I had asked a rep recently during a phone call and he said that was no problem but since we are doing it at BB it does make it a little messier. So hopefully I will be able to cancel the data plan without issue.

I recall doing something like that once.. It was with the $15 dollar plan with the voyager/dare type phones. I don't recall exactly. But they back dated something and this or that. from what I remember a charge will show up on your bill.. But you won't actually be charged for that plan on the line. Again this is all from my fuzzy memory when the voyager first launched. so don't quote me.

What I do know is everything worked out fine. Lol

So since I'm buying at retail I could just go in, pay for it, and walk out within like 10 minutes? Then just do all the stuff on my own?

I'm buying it retail also and I bought the Inc retail as well. I bought the Inc and walked out. Was quick so hopefully its similar.

As others have said you can do it yourself with the *288... the only problem is once it is programed for your alternate number you have to get the old phone for that number and do the *288 if you dont it will send you to customer service and will not program. The EIN or MCID for a phone is programed to that number and verizon's system wont let it activate on another line while its active in the system...
And yes it will add Data to the second line... Just reprogram the old phone with its number then reprogram the X with your number and call verizon or go online and cancel the Data plan on the second line...

  1. Get new phone (Let BestBuy do what they need to do)
  2. Reprogram old phone via *288
  3. Program Droid X for your number via *288
  4. Cancel Data plan

When I pick it up can they access my Verizon account there and modify my plan (such as adding the required data plan) and switch my phone number to it, or do I need to go to a Verizon store/do it myself? There is a VZW store across the street, and I don't mind doing it myself, but it would be great to leave Best Buy with a working X to play with.

You can DEFINITELY apply the upgrade to an alternate line and have it switched, at Verizon OR at Best Buy. This is exactly what I'm doing. Both Best Buy and Verizon said that it was okay and that Best Buy definitely does have the ability to do this.

The only thing is that while the lines are switching, for about 10 minutes, neither phone will receive calls. This happens on any line switch like this though, whether done by Verizon or Best Buy.

Has anyone had a BB rep confirm either how many they'll be getting or when they'll be getting them?

Well the reason I ask this I believe BestBuy uses EROES a premium retail program for VZW to access accounts, upgrade, etc. Which I used working at a premium retailer myself I could do alternate upgrades so people didn't have to mess with *228 switching phones. Just didn't know 100% if BB used EROES or if they did that(alternate upgrades) since some people say they don't honor NE2.

Welp just got home from bestbuy and they stop taking preorders yesterday. but they put me on a waiting list so i didnt have to put down $50 and they will call me and hold one when ever they get one thats not preoredered already.

Local Best Buy Received Only 10 Pre-Orders

My local Best Buy says they've only received 10 pre-orders. This number seemed kind of low to me (and also good so hopefully I won't have any issue). I'm curious if any of you have numbers for other locations. I should also mention that this location is in downtown SoHo, NYC. A pretty busy spot, though not the biggest Best Buy I've seen.

Seems low.....different demand different parts of the country. I am traveling to Campaign IL. next week, and have a appointment for the 15th at the local Corp. Verizon store, and the gal told me they had over 100 folks on the list when I checked back in. She said they expect there supply to be like the Droid 1 launch where the got over 200 phones......That seems like alot, but she also said they sold out the first day during the Droid 1 launch....
