Droid X Re-root issue

Hi All,

I'm hoping that someone can help me. First off, I'm a dummy. I reinstalled all of my bloatware but forgot to unroot prior to installing the 2.3.340 update. As such, the update went through and I still had my two superuser.apk files in my /system/app directory.

I tried to use z4root to remove the previous root and then reroot, but it doesn't work. I then followed the first steps from the instructions from:

http://forum.androidcentral.com/motorola-droid-2/40283-how-root-droid-2-without-computer.html

My goal is to mount the /system/app directory in read write so that i can manually delete the two .apk files.

I've been successful to a point. I run into the following challenge:

In step 3:
- when I try to type the following line in my terminal:
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system

it comes back with:

Usage: mount [-r][-w][-o options][-t type] device directory

Could someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong or what I can do to remove the two .apk files as I don't currently have root and can't use z4root to get it back until I've deleted these two files?

Thanks,

Salil

z4root should work even though you have those two files. I've rooted, un-rooted, then re-rooted with z4. The last time I rooted I used the one click method as it was much faster.

Try the one click then use Astro or Root explorer to get rid of the .apks you are trying to delete then use z4 to unroot.

After that you may have to do a data/cache wipe.

There's a few threads about this in case I missed something or this doesn't work.

Above poster is right. Might as well clear cache and get rid of the SU apk's
that are already there. Then try to root again. Probably some kinds of
footprints that won't allow it to.

z4 doesn't work if the old SU files are there.

Thanks, but again, my problem is that I CAN'T get rid of the SU apk's. Hence the need to mount in -rw so that I can remove them and get back to reroot.

I've tried running the z4 several times and it doesn't work. I've looked at a bunch of posts and removing the SU files is the solution that seems to be the only way to get back to root. However, the mount command line does not seem to be working for me. As such, I'm hoping that someone can look at that line and tell me what I've got wrong in it.

Thanks!

But aren't the su files on the memory card?

no. they are remnants from my previous root in /system/app

I need to get rid of them so that I can reroot.

Yeah, you're right. I just checked mine. Sounds like if a solution to how to access
the system files without root doesn't come up, you're looking at an SBF.

exactly what i'm trying to avoid. There's something goofy in the mount command line as I'm typing it. If there's someone that can look at it and figure out my error for a DX, I'll be set w/o needing to SBF.

Thanks!
