Is anyone having troubles syncing files through Dropbox. Its installed on my computer but they don't sync up to the DI. I have to go to the DropBox app and download them manually.

Wondering if it maybe syncing to the internal memory but I haven't found an explorer to browse it, maybe you can help with this too?

They won't sync up to your phone - you always have to go to the Dropbox app on the phone. It's how it works.

That sucks, its suppose to be a tool to sync files.

Also i noticed there is no progress bar when downloading, am i missing something else?

It's not so much a tool to sync files as it is a tool to share them. It's supposed to be, well, a dropbox so that any device you have it installed on can access that folder and get whatever you want out of it.

Not sure about the progress bar thing.

I've been using DropBox for about a yr. It syncs files perfectly between computer. Me and my friends use it to share data all the time and it syncs jsut fine.

Wish it would sync with the DI, maybe it doesn't sync because of storage size limitations?

But all through that "My Dropbox" folder on your computer, right? It doesn't sync files outside of that folder, as far as I know.

You can move stuff in and out of the Dropbox app on the phone - you just can't have it sync random folders.

It creates a DropBox folder in your My Documents folder and will sync whats in that folder. When you install DropBox on your DI it creates a Dropbox folder. Would be nice if it synced that to the one on your computer

Well looking on the DropBox site they do not allow syncing on mobile devices because of battery and network.

I'm not sure I'm following what you mean here. I upload a file on my Incredible, it then syncs with my desktop and I can view the file on my computer. Is that not what you're referring to?

Between computers......your phone is there just to access the shared files. Besides you have to plug your phone into the computer to put them there!!!

Lets see if I can make this as clear as the Gulf Coast right now. \

Syncing works between computers no problem.

I have not tested to see if i put a file in the Dropbox folder, testing now. Test complete and it will not sync files in the DI DropBox to your desktop. To upload a file you have to open the DropBox app and select upload then browse to the file.

The DI will not sync with your Dropbox folder. If you place something in your DropBox folder on your computer you will have to open the DropBox app and download it. DropBox does not allow syncing to mobile devices cause it will kill your battery life and also they said because of the instability of wireless networks.

Syncing would be nice. I understand the battery drain if it synced everything but it would be nice if you can tag a folder with something like mobile and it would automatically sync that folder.

Hopefully as clear as an oil spill

So, I think I see what you mean. You want it to automatically sync things in the Dropbox FOLDER (not the app) located on the SD card.

I guess that doesn't work, but I don't see what the huge deal is. When I need something out of my Dropbox, I go into the app and it automatically downloads whatever is in there. I can then access all my files from there.

Say you are at home about to go to work and you wanna watch a tv show/movie at work. It'd be nice to drop the file in the dropbox folder on your computer. The DI autosyncs and by the time you get to work its done. No worrying about going in and downloading it.

This was my excat situation yesterday. FYI Neighbors from Hell wasn't that funny.

Hi, This is Tom, the Dropbox Android app developer, here. Right now, the /sdcard/dropbox directory is acting like a cache. It's not a full mirror of your Dropbox, and there won't be an option to do that for a while, until the core sync protocols get brought over from desktop to mobile, bearing in mind network/battery/SDcard usage issues.

If you just stick files in the /sdcard/dropbox directory through adb or a file manager, Dropbox won't know that they're there. However, if you run Dropbox, and choose Import Any File, then use Astro or OI, then Dropbox knows that they're there and will upload them. You can also open files through Dropbox, edit them (for example using Docs to Go or Keepass) and they will upload again. We're working on extending the range of sync uses, but for now you have to upload using the Dropbox app.

We hope to have more automatic sync coming soon, but this is the way it works for now. Feel free to send e-mail to android-feedback@dropbox.com if you have any more questions/issues.

Thanks,

Tom

And to quote myself ;)

Or undoubtedly to upload to your cloud shared folder. lol.

Ok, so now I understand how this works, they have to be downloaded manually to your sdcard.... but is there a way to download whole folders? For example, I have this:

Folder A
----->Folder B
------------>Folder C
------------------->whole mess of files
Single File

So right now, I have to go to "Folder C", and select each one of the whole mess of files and download each one, one by one? Is there no way to download Folder A?

Not sure why you have to plug the phone onto PC. Any file put on the Dropbox folder on any peer shows up in the phone and all other Dropbox folders. What am I missing here?
