dual pixel sensor a scam?

I don't understand the concept of dual pixel. A camera lens can only direct light at one point at a time. You can have a dual pixel set. But unless the lens shifts and snaps a second image (which it could do with a standard sensor) the dual pixel pitch seems like marketing speak. We know the lens can move... That's how it focuses and with ois we know our can shift. Why claim something as bizarre as disk pixel sensor, when just shooting a second image at a slightly different shifted angle would achieve the same result. And if the dual pixel thing is legit, that's bad. That means individual pixel size is actually half the size of the sensor... Resulting in worse light capture.

Light is not directed at two points. It uses software algorithms to imitate a camera.
