Picked up a Gray E PH-1 on Prime Day. I had a white PH-1 several months ago. I noticed the sound quality to be GREATLY improved and after covering up the bottom speaker I discovered some sound coming out of the ear piece! I confirmed on the Essential site that the phone does indeed have dual firing speakers! I certainly don't remember this on my first phone.

Anyone else notice this?

BTW, build quality on the Gray is insanely good.

This is my first PH-1. Also hopped on the prime deal.

I did the covering trick, however not noticing much sound or any if at all.

I did get spoiled with the iPhone X and S9+ so I am not sure just how good thE PH-1 should be.

it's not as good as those phones but still a very pleasant surprise. I'm wondering if you have an older build? they're definitely both pumping out sound and it's listed on the website as having dual firing speakers.

There are dual speakers, just not in the sense you think...earpiece speaker is LOW volume, bottom speaker is LOAD volume, per user manual...makes sense...

What you are doing is forcing the sound to exit in a different place...thats all!!!

Hate to burst your bublle...

I completely agree...this is the loudest phone i have had...my last, nexus 6p, sucked pond water!!!

yeah i wouldn't call these dual speakers really. still it gets plenty loud and passes the shower test

That seems really odd to me. I've had a Nexus 6P since launch and the speakers (dual stereo speakers) have always worked great for me -- just tested my phone again, to make sure I wasn't remembering wrong.

At the same time, my Essential only uses the bottom speaker to play music. It does get very loud but I'm getting no sound from the top speaker -- I can quiet it merely by covering the bottom speaker holes.

You may have a defective device. I can cover the bottom speaker and still hear music out of the earpiece. Not to mention, the website advertises dual speakers in the specifications.
