Maybe the thinking as well is it'll ease Honeycomb in which is expected to be dual core later in 2011/early 2012 and more tablet friendly os than Gingerbread. So I forsee Gingerbread taking over Eclair/Froyo as the minumum Android OS of choice when it comes next year till 2012/13 at least, and making it dual core compatible may make it last even longer than that.

Think of Eclair/Froyo as Windows XP sorta of tagging over the next few years and Gingerbread as Windows 7 style that brings Android phones back into line and deters fragmentation of the Android OS through the likes of LG Star/Nexus-S.

Well for me it's easy wait but if you have say a bb then yeah that makes it hard but the dx,dinc, and evo are all great phones still shoot the g2 or mytouch should be comparable to a dualcore phone in androids current state

Is the LG Star/New Motorolas/Nexus-S the only current mobiles confirmed with a dual-core processor?

Will be interesting what HTC/Dell/SE/ZTE/ and others bring out next year for Gingerbread/Honeycomb.

Going to be quite a year for Android.

I can easily see an evo replacement using a dualcore snapdragon we only have heard of the tip of the iceberg next year is going to be crazy ill say that

I say if ya can hold out wait for the end of Q1/2011. We see tax returns come out, we see great electronics come out, its economics more money to spend more expensive products hit the shelves, thus dropping already stocked items lower.
Then you can paruse the newest and value its worth. I see all the top o' the line phones getting Gingerbread Q1-Q2/2011, Honeycomb late Q4/2011 with Dualcore support. Again, economics for Christmas sales

I could go get one right now, I've been able to since around June, but that's on the annual upgrade. I'd prefer that my wife and I can both upgrade at the same time, so January 5th is my date.

I'm sure that some amongst you might say "just pay retail", but I've got a 9 month old son who has claim on my money before I get it

I feel you glad mine have gotten somewhat older still 3&4 but diaper money has become head start money. Still waiting for it to become daddy money probably will never happen. But back on topic I don't blame you for waiting I am waiting also nothing out now is really worth the loss of an upgrade

Well for a while I was convinced that the Fascinate was the way to go, I even tried really, REALLY hard to get one on free phone Friday, but since I'm this close to the end and dual core is in the horizon, nothing really blows me away right now. That's not to say that all phones out right now are bad, I'm just too aware of what's coming.

A lot of us Android heads are running dual core processors in our 10.1" Viewsonic G-Tablets; flashed with TNT Lite 2.2.0 (courtesy of roebeet) results in Quadrant scores of 2450-2480. Can't want for Anroid optimized for dual core.

Oh yeah, I forgot about those. That's the tegra 2, right? Aside from quadrant scores, how's the practical performance? What about battery life?

Hopefully battery life should improve. Our very own gbhil (Jerry) has done a very good job of explaining that a dual-core processor isn't necessarily twice as fast, but does the work in half the time and half the effort. Theoretically battery life should improve, as the processor doesn't have to work as hard to accomplish the same tasks.
