Dear Folks,
I was thrown off by the following:
Read an article at phonearena - 'How to Turn on and make sense of the LG V30s Quad DAC":
"the "Quad" part means there are actually four DACs stuffed inside a single chip. This lets you use a pair of high-impedance headphones (>50 Ohms), as the three extra DACs kick in only when connected to such a pair. This is designed with audiophiles in mind, as high-impedance headsets are usually much more expensive than regular ones."
Hence I had asked on other forums:
Does it mean that LG's Quad DAC is only useful if one uses 50+ ohm ear(head)phones?
- Will they consume a lot of power?
- Any recommendations in sub $200 category? I have the following in mind - SoundMagic E80
Looking forward to the thoughts of wiser folks.
Bang For Your Buck!! These sound AWESOME. Only need 20 30 hours burn in, after that..bass is phenomenal. --> NarMoo B2M Dual-Driver Headphones with Mic, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SURJAI...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU6048033Sorry I am new to headphone. Anyone recommend good but not to expensive for V30 DAC? Thanks.
I wouldn't put full credence in that article. I've heard similar theories for the V20 but never actually comfirmed that it turns on chips on or off. The bottom line is that impedance is a poor standard for which to decide how much output is required. If you dont already have high impendance headphones it will still sound superb with good low impedance headphones. If you decide to invest in high impedance headphones stay away from anything over 250ohms as a rule because some of those are battery killers. There are a few over the ear headphones that around 80 ohms but a very efficient that will work well.
Today I received a big box of goodies for my V30. USB cables and charges, but also 2 sets of earbuds. The first are SoundMagic E80S. They trigger the DAC's high impedance mode (like my Sennheiser DD 598 over ear headphones). The second set are 1More Triple Driver IEH. They both sound fantastic, but I haven't had enough time to compare them with my SoundMagic E10's and each other. Also need to take some time to break them in.
I'm also looking at E80s and 1More Triple. Please let us know which one you like more. Thanks!
I have a great pair of Sennheiser HD 598 headphone (50 ohms) that sound terrific with the V30 DAC, but of course they’re not very portable. I also have a pair of SoundMagic E10 Noise Isolating earbuds (in-Ear 47 ohms) that sound very good, but I’m wondering if there are other earbuds (high impedance) that would use the DAC to its full extent. Does anyone have any suggestions? From what I understand whatever you’re using should be over 50 ohms.
