Early upgrade questions

It seems to be different depending on who you talk to!

I know for sure my primary line is not eligible for upgrade until 2011. I know that reps will laugh in my face if I continue to ask them if that line is eligible to upgrade to the X or any other phone.

The question I had was regarding my secondary line.

That was is always iffy; do they count it toward my "contract" or do they count it as a secondary contract? My guess now is that they count it as a secondary contract which they don't accept early upgrades for. They will always tell you that secondary lines aren't eligible for early upgrades; not even for the X (despite the fact that they can lock you into your contract for 2 extra years...go figure).

I called VZW and spoke with a CSR to see if I could get lucky. She started to tell me what I was expecting before I questioned her citing that there was some sort of press release. She looked further and found an offer that didn't really match what the CEO himself mentioned. Undoubtedly I was pretty happy about being able to upgrade my secondary line to the X. She said something about it expiring though, which didn't make sense.

So a few days later I went into a corporate store to confirm this and was totally let down.

Disappointed but not broken, I went home and the first thing I did was call a CSR again. Again, they gave me the same story about, "no, you have to wait." Sensing frustration, she started to look into my "notes" and found that there supposedly was an offer when I had first called, but it expired the exact same day I originally called. She checked with the almighty supervisor and because that expiration date was not explicitly conveyed to me, they were going to honor it for me anyway, almost 2.5 weeks later.

Gladly, and I made sure they notated it before I hung up, I can order my X on the 15th and have it overnighted. They also gave me the option of seeing if I can pick up the phone locally. I don't know what I was thinking...I should call back and pick it up on Thursday! Not wait for it on Friday!

The moral of the story:
It probably really depends on who you talk to and whatever "promotions" they may be offering at the exact second you call.

I wish it were easier. If anyone has good hard proof about early upgrades, please share! I know there is a press release that some of you are sharing on here, but it seems even that is a source of confusion. As for me, I hope the story doesn't change AGAIN.
 
My secondary lines aren't due for an upgrade until December. I asked to have one of them bumped up as far as they could so that I could upgrade my wife's phone as well. Was told no can do with a secondary line, but call back in the first week of October and they will re-assess the situation.
 
Grrrr to Verizon NE2

So my contract has been in excellent standing order for almost 2 years and my NE2 is coming up Sept 21 which is about 2 months away, So I emailed verizon to ask if I can have my NE2 bumped up to July 15th to get my NE2 discount on top of the $100.00 off the Droid X. They email me back saying they are unable to do it at this time due to my NE2 being to far out but I would be able to get it at the discount price of 199.99. Anybody else have this issue or should I call in to speak to a live rep?
 
Call them. I called yesterday and they moved my date from 7/26/10 to 7/11/10. they said it would be just like a normal NE2 for me too. im guessing that means discount for me too! i should have asked.

you need to speak to a live Rep, call customer service or dial *611 on your cell.
Stay professional & polite, make sure you let VZ know that you are very interested in the X. Again keep it professional, without sounding demanding.
An upgrade is always possible, especially in your case. You are very close to your NE2 date.
they will try to offer you other things but you need to stick by your guns. The majority of my conversations had the undertone of "this is the end result, and I'm just here to discuss "HOW WE'RE GOING TO MAKE IT HAPPEN."
Remember, if you don't get things accomplished on the first call, try try again.
You WILL get things figured out.
 
I just wish I could do an early. I bought the Droid on launch day but I cant early until next year May.

It really sucks cause I want the X pretty bad and theres nothing I can do but pay full retail (thats what they tell me when I call)
 
I seem to remember at the press release event, someone saying that if your NE2 was up anytime this year you could upgrade to the Droid X at launch.

Just to make sure, give them a call or head to your VZ store and have them note on the account that you wish to take advantage of the early upgrade Promotion on the X.
 
If I order from Verizon Wireless' website (GRR, BBY ran out of pre-orders), how much would it cost since I have a NE2 upgrade available?
Also if you buy a Droid X via Verizon's website, when will it ship or does Verizon have pre-orders too?
Lastly, via Verizon's website, can I do an alternate upgrade as in taking the NE2 from one of my lines so I can upgrade?

EDIT: If I have a NE2, will it still be 199!? D:

If your NE2 gives you a $100 discount, it will cost $99 after the instant online discount as well since there is no mail-in rebate.

I don't think you will be able to apply it to another line unless you call them up or go into a store though.
 
It took me three times to get my NE2 moved up from the 25th to the 15th. The first time I called, the girl said "sure, that will be no problem". I checked on Friday, it still had changed. So I called again, to the tune of "yes sir, I'll have that changed for you". I logged in again today to see it still reflected the 25th.

So one last call and I spoke to a very nice lady that said "yes sir, I'll do it now.."

"Hold up, I'm going to hold you to this... let me check". Sure enough, it reflects the 15th now.

From speaking with another rep awhile back she said they usually will move up a NE2 if you are within 30 days of it (in my case, I just wanted it moved to 10 days prior).
 
They can only move it 30 days forward is what I've been told. You can try calling them and badgering them, but I'm not sure it'll get you anywhere. Might be able to score a free accessory or something I guess.

how weird. last year my sister got an EnV Touch from stealing the NE2 Upgrade & she did it online..

No to the last one.....can't apply it to another line....
Need to buy it for the primary and then do an esn swap.

I don't get it. So what if a different line is eligable for a NE2 discount & then they get the X & give it to me.. is that possible?
 
My NE2 is up on 7/21. I figure, why not call and see if they can bump me up a measly 6 days? Just like they bumped me up 2 weeks back in '08 when I purchased the Storm on the release date. I was polite and asked to be bumped up the 6 days and received the "I'm sorry, we can't do that. Maybe if you goto the store, the manager there can do it for you." I asked to speak to a supervisor who said no to the 6 day bump and said the store manager, if I were to go down on the 15th and ask, probably would not do it since "they work off commission". When prompted why they were able to bump me 2 weeks back in '08, she said that back then the policy was different and they reserve the right to change policy. WTF? *sigh*
Should I even bother to call back and try a different rep? Or did they just put notes in my account to not give my NE2 a 6 day bump?
 
fwi...ne2 is not the same as your upgrade date. the vzw press release says anyone with a contract end date in '10 can upgrade. it does not say that the additional ne2 discount will be applied.

same as taking your 1 year upgrade...you get the 2-year price, reup your contract, and restart (but do not receive) the ne2.
 
They can and will move your date 30 days. I would keep calling until they do. If it's more than 30 days I wouldn't waste my time personally.

I was initially told they could move it, but not until the phone was released. The second person said they couldn't move it at all. The third person, I explained I was getting conflicting information, and that my past experience with Verizon customer service has been great, and explained that I'm not sure why there is a problem. I then got my 7/21 upgrade moved to the day of the call (7/2 I think) and he explained they can move it up to 30 days with no problems whatsoever.
 
all verizon csr tell you different stories i was told yes didnt get my account noted like an idiot and called a few days ago to confirm and was told no so i emailed and called about 20 times since then and all i get is denied .. i just want to get the friggen phone and dont wanna wait until november
