Earphone plug and Other Issues

I was wondering if I could use my earphone to control the Audio Player such as FF Rew Pause and Volume Up n Down functions??
The other issue is that the Audio Player Always stays in the background and I haven't found a way for it to remain on the screen After switching screens or the screen has been locked?
Before getting this Galaxy s5 phone I had an iPhone 4 and it did all of that plus had a feature that names the song before playing it.
I miss that and wish Samsung had done the same.
All I can do with my buttons is to pause n that's it.

To answer part of your question, as a general rule the controls on designed-for-iPhone earbuds do not function correctly on Android devices.

I found out the hard way but I've bought 3 more ear buds n they too don't work. I don't know if I should buy a Samsung brand or it won't work either
I'm on tight budget n can't waste money. I wished I could tho

Maybe stop in a carrier store and ask if you can test some earbuds? At least then you'll see what works and what doesn't.

I think your jack is bad. I would recommend the same, plus take the ones you purchased with u, just in case.
I usually buy in Wal-Mart for $4-6, they have them usually by the registers at checkout. Some of them have Mic features, but these will break fast and only one ear bud will work, regardless of the brand. We purchased from $70 to $4 no difference in reliability.
