Email app keeps syncing although it's set manual

Hi .. I have GS5 .. I use the stock email app. I've set syncing to be manual for all email accounts in the app .. but still every now and then when I check the home screen I find new emails badge on the app. Is this common? Or there is a tweak I don't know about?
