Email app Vs Gmail app

I have used the stock email app off and on, but I get so much junk mail that I've come to rely on Gmail's ability to sort and keep only relevant emails in my primary and updates tabs. Having all of it in my inbox with the stock app is just not manageable for me. I really want to use the stock app, but can't because of this.

Very good point...the native email app is pretty much useless at blocking junk email. I use SpamDrain to filter my emails and it works great but it's a paid app. Gmail definitely does a better job of blocking unwanted emails.

I disagree, I've been using the Samsung stock email app and controlling the influx of Spam with success. Below is a screen cap of the version I'm running.

By my experience, the default email app just follows how I set Gmail on the web to treat junk email.

However Gmail does have the email categorization feature. So far the only one with a similar feature I've seen is Outlook for Android.

IMO this is Google's attempt at data mining plain and simple. I use the standard e-mail for my work and personal(non gmail) email accounts. If I was using a gmail account(which I do less and less) I would stick it under Gmail but why anyone would put all their email addresses under the Gmail flag is beyond me. Think of it, Google would only frame the app in this way if they were in someway benefitting.

Completely Agree, although a great email app, you never get anything free for nothing, Google is a money making machine that loves to make money with our information!!

Google's apps have a depressing tendency to malfunction or refuse to function unless you let Google track you all the time. I don't want Google or anyone else tracking me all the time, so I don't use the GMail app or Google Maps. The GMail app doesn't work properly without position tracking turned on and Google maps continually complains that Google Play needs to track me.

The stock email app works fine and there are other good map apps.
