Email Issues - Hotmail, Yahoo

Has anyone had issues with their Hotmail or Yahoo accounts on the Captivate? I'm getting a lag on receiving emails from these two email accounts (on and off wifi), getting connection errors and even having my emails disappear completely from my phone's inbox only to reappear later. I did call AT&T and Samsung. Not a known issue according to Samsung. I will be exchanging my unit today and hope that this is a defective unit. Starting to regret ditching my Blackberry device for this phone.

I have the same exact issue. My yahoo email using the built in email takes forever to load, read, delete, etc. I even downloaded the yahoo app for android..and its just as slow. my work exchange mail is ok..kinda slow. definitely not as fast as my iphone.

Same problem. Yahoo android app is mediocre at best.

Nowhere near as smooth and functional compared to how the iphone handles mail.

Probably my one and only true gripe about switching to Android.

I've just saved a bookmark to my Yahoo inbox and use my browser to check my yahoo mail. it seems to be more accurate and faster than using the app.

Its sad though that users are almost felt forced to switch to Gmail just because of the poor support.

I've had my yahoo email for YEARS, I'm not really about to switch it up.

not really that sad. It's just an email address.

Sorry if I don't shed any tears with you but it would probably be better for you to just use Gmail.

You could continue using yahoo email but then you have to wait for yahoo to improve their app. Easiest solution is to just use gmail and say fu to yahoo.

just a suggestion..

I think my Southern Louisiana euphemisms are being misconstrued. I literally am not 'sad' nor am I 'shedding any tears'

But I am also not the kind to just lay down and do whatever is the easiest. I hope you don't have the same 'easiest route' philosophy with life.

Other apps sucked when they were first released and are getting better and better. I am sure Yahoo will pick up the slack, if they fear possibly losing users.

I have had issue with it, but I am going to gmail more because of constant spam in my yahoo. Either way I don't mind, I like both email programs.

yahoo sucks at everything they do. It took them over a year to just release an email app for Android.

I wouldn't expect much from that company.

Also I don't always take the easy route. I do however analyzing trends and functionality and I've become more comfortable using my gmail account.

I still have yahoo account for my personal email, which i don't need push notifications for.

I use gmail for my business emails, which do need push notifications for.

It's not about taking the easiest route. It's about evaluating the functionality and use that the app provides you.

The gmail app works perfectly for my needs and the yahoo doesn't.

Whenever yahoo decides to fix their system then great but I ditched my yahoo account a longtime ago for any emails that are pertinent.

The unfortunate situation Android users with Yahoo accounts find themselves in is that Yahoo develops the app, and they have no real incentive to troubleshoot an app used on a competitor's OS...

I have used gmail for years... I even sold a few invites back in the day, so moving to android has been easier for me. The gmail app on blackberry was nice, though... But even the dopey-looking email app on the Captivate performs much better and receives emails almost instantly when compared to the BIS Exchange email for blackberry. BB gave no love to non BES exchange guys. Who has $16K for mobile email?

I had the yahoo app, and it SUCKED. I ended up getting K9 mail to manage my 2 pop3 accounts and my yahoo email. K9 takes a little bit of thinking and configuring, but, in the end, it is acceptable for me. It doesn't work as well as the blackberry email service (what does), but it gets the job done. Just waiting for the native android email client to get up to speed.

Current iphone 3gs owner considering the capitvate. I use yahool email and although I have an gmail account do not want to use it as primary email. In reading the post here it is clear that yahoo mail is not as good as gmail on android phones.

My question is: Can you enter you yahoo account as you would an gmail account in the accounts settings or must you use the yahoo mail app. I looked at the accounts setting on the phone at ATT and did not see how to enter an yahoo mail account.

Might be very tough of give up my iphone and mobile me if I cannot use yahoo. Thanks for any info as the ATT folks were really no help on thi question.

Thanks K9 look pretty good!

I saw the reference to K9, thanks. I looked it up and it looks pretty good. I will be giving the Captivate a trial next week! My wife has the Vibrant and she really likes it.

I did the Yahoo forward of my mail to Gmail. To put it gently...the service sucks. Sometimes it will take DAYS for a email to show up.

Using my browser to check my mail is fine by me. The phone is fast enough, that it goes pretty smoothly. I don't really require INSTANT notification as soon as I get an email. My life is a little more chill than that. lol
