Email not syncing on my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. Any ideas?

Email Not Syncing - Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

Last week I had a software update on my tablet. Since then I can not open my email app or sync emails. This is the standard email app, not the Gmail app, that is working fine. I have cleared cache and rebooted but still no luck. :-\

Welcome to Android Central! Have you tried removing the email accounts and adding them back?

I tried that but it won't let me delete them, it just hangs.

When you say you cleared cache, do you mean the Email app's cache, or the system cache partition?
 
Sorry for gatecrashing but I too have the same problem after a firmware update. I have tried everything including factory resets both from Settings and the Recovery boot menu.

From a reset the email app opens at email account set up but when I finish setting up my account it then freezes. It then appears to be downloading mail in the background as the icon shows new mail but when I try to open the app it freezes on a white screen. Any ideas anyone?
 
Welcome to Android Central! When you do a factory reset, the device may still automatically reinstall your previous apps if the "Automatically Restore" setting is turned on in Settings>Backup & Reset. So if there's some app that's interfering with the Email app, it might still be causing problems after a factory reset because it automatically reinstalled.

Try booting into Safe Mode, which disables all 3rd party apps, and see if you can set up the Email app properly. If so, then you may have to uninstall apps one by one until the problem goes away, since it's difficult to identify the problem app more accurately. I first cleared the email app's cache which didn't work. I then looked online to find out how to clear the system cache partition and it wouldn't work. All i keep getting is Odin Mode and it says 'downloading,, do not switch off' but then just hangs.

Try using the side of the volume button nearest to the power button to get into recovery mode

Thanks, I managed to get to the system cache partition that way, but when I clicked on it, it just came up as error! I think I am just going to install a different email app. If the Gmail app allowed duplicate accounts I would be OK.

Cleaning the cache through recovery console always ends with an error message, after cleaning (error and the android figure lying on its back) As far as I know this is normal.

Why "duplicate" accounts?

It does handle more than one account

Ok, well if the error message is normal, it still hasn't fixed the problem. My Gmail app does not have the option for multiple accounts, unlike the desktop version.

Sure it does.

Go to the tablet's settings,scroll to "Accounts", click add, select "google" account and add. The new account will pop up active and ready in your gmail app. Just make sure that you "untick" the sync options that you don't require when you set up the account

Thanks B.Diddy for the suggestion but this didn't work either.
If this was my laptop, I would now be doing a complete install of the operating system. Is there any way of doing that with Android, or even just reinstalling the stock email app?
 
I've had this same issue since the update too; it's very frustrating as I need it for work. Has anyone had any luck yet? If so, please direct me...and thank you!
 
B Diddy's suggestion worked for me - flashing the stock rom using Odin. It is however a complete reinstall so you will be starting from scratch with your tablet.
