What is the best keyboard to use, that will give me emoji icons, without having to root? Thanks.:'(

Emoji icons are plugins to install on your phone. No keyboard has emojis, just the stock smiley faces. But best keyboard in my opinion for the Vivid would be the JellyBean keyboard ported to ICS 4.0.3

O.K. What's the name of the keyboard, that has the smiley faces built in?

The stock one does. Tap the 12# key, then tap the 1/2 key next to the space bar. You'll see the stock smileys. I use the stock keyboard with trace turned on.

O.K. Found the smileys, but where is this "trace" that you turned on, and does it help show the smileys?

I have everything set up, however, i can see the emoji when i send a text, but the receiver only gets the text...no emoji.:'(

Does the receiver also have an Android phone?

No. I've been testing the various keyboards on my Vivid, and sending texts w/emojis to my wife's iPhone 4. Her emojis integrate right into her stock keyboard, and work fine, when she sends them to me.

This is the best i can do, without rooting. Outgoing from my phone, i see the emoji character in Japanese, incoming to another phone, they see the actual emoji. I can't believe that the iPhone does something better than Android.:'(

Yeeeeeah....only smart phones and phones COMPATIBLE WITH Emojis will receive them correctly...

Thanks, and i'm not giving up. Will try various messaging apps, and see what happens.

I use an app that's perfect with them: Handcent SMS. Give it a whirl. I use the Darkness theme. :P

Didn't get to that one yet. Using ChompSMS, and works good so far. Sends texts and pics with smilies or emojis to wife's iPhone. I'll try my daughter's Android next. It's my little granddaughter who likes to see the emojis, that's why i'm working so hard on this. Thanks, again. Wish i could use the "lloyd smilies" on my phone. The ones below, in the message box.:D

Hey, it's whatever works for the user, as long as it gets the job done. :)

No go. There is NO sms app in the market, that will show an emoji on both ends of the text, when going from Android to Android. :'(

Do both users have Emoji installed??? And possibly Handcent SMS?

My daughter's phone has emoji built in, no special app. My wife's phone is an iPhone, with emoji right in the keyboard. I send to my wife's iPhone, and no problem. I send to my daughter's Android, and she gets "funny characters". I think that she means the symbols for the emoji. Another day of this crap, and i'm done. I guarantee that my next phone will have this capability, whatever it is.

Thanks again, for your help.

Totally forgot about this, but there's a difference between the stock emoticons and emojis. And odd characters? Sounds like an incompatibility issue with the receiver's phone.

if you use handcent sms app and download the handscent emoji app you will be able to both receive and send emoji with no problems. When you go to settings in handscent there is an entire emoji settings section
